only Sarah Palin is immune from FR backlash

I dunno. I think the days when she was routinely compared to Ronald Reagan, Spartacus, Winston Churchill, Betsy Ross, Sgt. Alvin York, Paul Revere, etc., etc., etc. without even the faintest hint of irony, are long gone.

If and when she runs again, I suspect she will make a couple of moves toward the libertarian side of the GOP, and then you will see some of the kitties uncover their claws.

Fair enough.

He’s an Islamo-phile (see separate post) and should be rejected for a post that must be an Islamo-sceptic.

Big Government: Rand Paul Filibusters Brennan Nomination
"If there was an ounce of courage in this body I would be joined by many other Senators," Sen. Paul said. "Would you tolerate a Republican who said I like the first amendment, I don't plan to violate the first amendment, but I might," he asked rhetorically. He then turned the question around and asked if Republicans would tolerate that sort of vaguery with regard to the 2nd amendment.
It appears Senator Paul has chosen his hill to die on.

Now approaching three hours!

He’s made some very good points, although he’s repeating himself now.

Oh well. I hope he filibusters until midnight.

IF I had ten hands, I would be giving him ten thumbs up...and I am a semi-radical Jew Zionist who does not believe that Rand Paul is an anti-semite.

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have joined the filibuster.

Ted Cruz references Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

There are plenty of reasons to oppose Brennan but his [Muslim] faith would not be one.

Oh, absolutely, because there is no reason for any American to be concerned about Islam. /SARCASM

The Constitution, as awesome as it is, is not the Bible. I'm sure it never occurred to the Founders that Islam might ever get a sizeable foothold in the USA, otherwise, they might have excluded Islam from the protected religions list.

The main problem with Islam, and the reason it SHOULD pose a concern for all Americans, is that it is not just a religion - it is also a political ideology, with its own designs for governmental structure. In that sense, it should not be viewed as merely a religion, and therefore the "no religious test" rule should not apply.

I'll give you an example: In our past, we tried to keep communists out of government because its political ideology was incompatible with a republic. Now, let's say some enterprising individual decides to add a religious aspect to Marxism. He says that God, or some god, commands a dictatorship of the proletariat, that this god says that the way to serve him is for each to give according to ability and each to receive according to his need, and that this god demands that a single party be set up to rule all men without restraint, and that this party can kill indiscriminately if they judge it useful, and that the peons have no rights.

Would we be then obligated to avoid excluding communists from government because communism is now a religion? It's the same ideology either way, but now we are suddenly obliged to welcome it because someone added the word "god" or "allah" or "flying spaghetti monster" or whatever?

“It appears Senator Paul has chosen his hill to die on.”

“Ten thumbs up!”

Rand Paul is making history today! Will history notice?

He could have read the dictionary, but instead he is requiring of himself to expound on the principles of our Constitution, Bill of Rights, separation of powers, posse comitatus, habeas Corpus, the sloppy bills Congress passes, etc, etc. Now approaching his 4th hour.

By word count, I can’t remember the last time I heard the words “Constitution” and “Republic” repeated so often-— just not repeated, but explained!

The criticism that he repeats himself... thumbs up to Paul! Anyone else care to intelligently filibuster for 4 hours? Moreover, repetition is a well-tested educational device.

Any Senators not joining Paul are being exposed for the self-interested anti-Constitutionalist cowards that they are.

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but I think you are out of your mind.

Paul should not have voted for Chuck Hagel. Hagel is in a position to do tremendous harm to the US. In my opinion he is as much of an Islamofascist apologist as Brennan is, and Hagel is going to be able to do at least as much damage to the US and to those who have to live under Islamofascists in Africa and Asia as Brennan can do at the CIA. Furthermore, I think that both of them want to strengthen the Islamofascists.

While I would like to see Brennan defeated for CIA (and there is great video by Frank Gaffney about why Brennan is a danger, which is available at http://www.trevorloudon.com), I think that Rand Paul has picked a theatrical way to act as though he opposes the Brennan nomination. However, as he did with Hagel I expect Paul to cave again and vote for Brennan.

This is kabuki.

I do too. And here's Paul's "tell:" He's doing this because of a letter Holder wrote. Holder will clarify to Paul's satisfaction, and then he'll turn on us.

Kabuki. (I'd apologize to the Japanese, but that involves stabbing myself with a knife.)

“These guys are literally giving me goosebumps.”

Me too....continually. That’s when I decided to post.

“Jerry Moran is on the floor as well. This could get even MORE interesting.”

I hope it does. I wonder, are they getting feedback? Is anybody listening? Are their phone-lines jammed?

Will conservatives allow this filibuster to be spun into babble-speak by the Obama adm/media sycophants?

Do they have the will and cognizance to continue this filibuster into 6 pm timeslot. Will more senators join them?

Keep this filibuster moving forward!!!

Now speaking as I finish my post——Ron Wyden, D-Oregon-—support?

“Al Quds” is the Arabic Islamic Supremacist word for “Jerusalem”.
