Posted on 03/06/2013 7:59:54 PM PST by TurboZamboni
Today, DFL Representative Debra Hilstrom and a bipartisan coalition of legislators and sheriffs introduced a new bill which will address the very real issue of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the dangerously mentally ill, without infringing on the rights of law abiding Minnesota gun owners. Republican Rep. Tony Cornish, the House's leader on gun rights, joined Hilstrom at the press conference to speak in favor of the bill. Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson,

The bill's co-authors comprise more than half of the representatives, both Democrats and Republicans, in the Minnesota House. There were so many authors that Rep. Hilstrom had to introduce three identical bills to fit the names of all the co-authors!
HF1323 focuses on forcing government departments to quickly and accurately report criminal convictions and mental health and chemical abuse commitment data to the state and federal background check systems.
The bill also add a lifetime prohibition on firearm ownership for perpetrators of certain violent domestic felonies, and makes it easier for counties to prosecute the straw purchasers that the federal government won't.
GOCRA is proud to have worked with Rep. Hilstrom, Rep. Cornish and the NRA to craft real solutions to real problems.
Please call and email Rep. Paymar, and insist that HF1323 be heard without delay.

The bill will also need a Senate companion bill. Please call YOUR senator and ask him/her to sign on as an author of this important legislation.
One thing about the current state of affairs, it has smoked the anti-gunners out and we now see what they are REALLY after. TOTAL CONTROL.
And to think, in 1962 Thomas J Dodd and Emaual Cellar proposed the first federal law on common firearms.
1962; We dont want to take away your guns, we ONLY want to register handguns! Rifles and shotguns will not be affected.
1964: We only want to register all your guns, not ban them! Only Army surplus guns will be banned.
1968: We only want to register your guns, and ban Saturday Night Specials and small foreign handguns along with army surplus rifles! (They got the ban on 5 shot army surplus rifles and handguns and small foreign pistols)
1970: We only want to ban Saturday night specials! Large handguns and rifles will not be affected! There was also a call at this time to ban all private possession of ALL GUNS.
1976: We only want to ban all handguns! Long guns will not be affected!
1981: The NRA should give up their handguns, and they can keep their rifles!- Lee Grant on GMA
1984: We must ban assault Rifles, unsuitable or hunting!
1989: George Bush bans import of some foreign made assault rifles”.
1992: Assault rifle ban passed by Clinton.
2000: first calls to ban single shot .50 cal rifles...
and so it continues.
They lied to us in 1962.
They lied to us in 1964.
TheY lied to us in 1968.
They lied to us in 1970.
They lied to us in 1976.
They lied to us in 1981.
AND THEY ARE LYING TO US NOW!
The difference between 1968 and now is Americans are now wise to them and their devious plans for total control.
They haven’t even been able to keep the criminal DNA records up to date.
Nice post. If any of you ‘Elmer Fudds’ (simmer down, I hunt too) think they’ll leave your Remington 700 or Winchester 70 alone, after they grab our evil black guns, think again.
