The Obama administration has overreached three times in the past ten days in attempting to illustrate the negative impact of the sequester spending cuts in the short term, giving fodder to those seeking to play down the impact of the cuts.
On Monday, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told reporters that major airports had seen lines ballooning to 150-200 percent their normal size. The Transportation Security Administration later clarified that it was not yet seeing longer-than-normal checkpoint lines, though Customs and Border Protection told CBS News there had been increased wait times at two airports due to reduced staffing. The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, however, that officials representing a dozen major airports said there were few if any unusual flight delays or lines at security or customs checkpoints. That included an official at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, which is one of the two airports that had been specifically cited by Customs and Border Protection.
On Friday, meanwhile, President Obama said that janitors at the U.S. Capitol would receive a pay cut due to the sequester cuts. Carlos Elias, the superintendent of the U.S. Capitol building and the Capitol Visitors Center, quickly emailed employees to say This is NOT TRUE, adding that The pay and benefits of EACH of our employees WILL NOT be impacted. The prior Sunday, Education Secretary Arne Duncan had said on CBS Face the Nation that There are literally teachers now who are getting pink slips, who are getting notices that they cant come back this fall. He later acknowledged that he misspoke after fact checkers found no evidence for the claim.

Guess no one in the administration anticipated that there is a large number of us who don’t give a damm.
The Obama administration forking out the horseshyt.
The ignorant eating it up.
A real leader would issue a short statement saying the government had a plan to concentrate the effect of budget cuts in areas where the impact would be minimal so that there would be no negative effects felt by the public.
But we don’t have a real leader in the White House or the administration and only one or two in the entire congress and senate.
More importantly they failed to anticipate that House Pubbies would not give a damn.
As one of them said “What’s our approval rating now, something like 8%? So what’s he gonna do, drive that down to 6%?”
It’s not overreaching it’s lying out his ass. And McCain is happy to swear to any lies Obama offers for the price of a hot dog.
My suspicion is that this is the only reason Obama made the highly unusual overture in inviting the GOP senators to dinner...to try to get these headlines about sequester out of the news.
I cut my finger the other day....that's right - sequestering...
The sequester just started. Has the government done anything between March 1st and now to ensure infrastructure could cave so quickly.
Has the government done ANYTHING - good or bad - that could run this quickly?
So, we are still waiting for pay cuts for Obama, Congress, and Supreme Court Justices?
Maybe they just haven't gotten to them yet./s
Ditto.
The media consistently tells us that congress and the senate only have an 8% or 9% favorability rating, but over 90% of incumbents running for reelection actually win their elections.
Must be something to do with new math.
“Welcome, Visitors” sign should read “Welcome to your House”.
If Red Foxx were still alive he could go everywhere with Obama and have “the big one” every time “sequestration” is uttered.
Maybe Obama can hire Petraeus to torture him onscreen?
Real pain, and the ratings would be unique.
Cutting down on gubmint spending is a good thing. We all know he directed agencies to cut back things that hurt the public the most.
He is one hypocrite.
He is already planning his summer vacation at our expense...no pain for him, huh?
