Viewpoint: What if women ruled the world?
BBC News Magazine ^ | 3-7-2013 | Dee Dee Myers

Posted on 03/09/2013 7:30:47 AM PST by haffast

Not so long ago, the idea that women might rule the world seemed slightly ridiculous - like something out of science fiction. But in an essay to mark International Women's Day, political analyst and former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers argues it's now a topic that can be seriously discussed.

Women clearly lacked the intellectual capacity and emotional fortitude to make the difficult decisions that leadership required. It wasn't bias, it was biology - it was just the way women were made.

But that was then. In recent decades, attitudes and ideas have changed - and fast. That's not to say that every corner of the world has welcomed women moving from the traditional and private into the modern and public. But move they have.

So what's changed? A lot. As a huge and growing body of research and experience makes clear, empowering women makes things better. Not perfect. But better.

snip

Former US Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice says she has learned first-hand that you need women to participate in the peace process.

"First and foremost women are often the guardians of the village, the family, and are therefore the ones who suffer most in conflict zones. They're often the target of marauding forces, the target of those who would rape and maim and if you can engage them in the process, then they also can help the society to heal."

So empowering women isn't about political correctness, it's about improving outcomes. It's about investing in stronger economies and healthier communities - it's about ending conflicts, and sustaining peace. It's about improving the quality of life for people all over the world.

Empowering women isn't just the right thing, it's the necessary thing. And because women are increasingly ruling, the world is changing for the better.

In any given society, women only have as much power as men give them.

I have news for you...any woman that believes their man is obligated to “put the seat down” is “those type of women.”

The chauvinism of women is far more pervasive than anything men practice. And blaming it on the “quality of men” simply demonstrates one has “bought the bs.”

How much of Europe is speaking German right now?
____________________________________________________________

Again, so? And as a practical matter, a lot of people in Europe speak more than one language. Probably due to the fact that travel is easier now, they are closer together, etc.

But my question had to do w/ killing. Is killing the only method to keep freedom?

Can you suggest an alternate method for dealing with the Nazis, the Soviets and Al Qaeda?

Do you think men and women are the same?
_________________________________________________________
In what sense Charlie? //smile

There are many ways in which I believe men and women are different. But as a conservative woman, I do not believe that any one gender is better than another. I don’t blame men for he ill’s of society....I blame mankind....which in my mind encompasses both genders.

from those forms of oppression that are characteristically female in nature.

What forms of oppression are female in nature? Not sure if we agree or disagree...as I don’t know what you’re referring to.

“Ilsa: Harem Keeper of The Oil Sheiks” I’ll watch that and see if it is as good as “Ilsa: The Tigress of Siberia” which I bound intriguing and fascinating in a bizarre way.

As a conservative woman, you should recognize that generally men are better at some things and women are better at others. Up until about 40 years ago, everyone knew this because they hadn't been taught to deny what their eyes and ears show them.

the die was cast with the Nineteenth Amendment. Once women obtained the right to vote, we virtually guaranteed that socialism and big government would be the result.

The bigger question is, are women more susceptable to communism than men?
______________________________________________________________
Not sure about communism, but IMO, women probably are more tolerant of a socialistic society...in the classic meaning....not the political meaning.

I think that communism as a economic doctrine has proven to be a failure. And thank goodness for that!

You demonstrate my point with aplomb.

The word “histrionics” was coined for a reason.
____________________________________________________________
Oh my. If you think my sarcastic response was histrionics, you need to expand your horizons.

Or perhaps not. Given your delicate nature, you should probably stay cloistered in your all male society. Cause as we all know, men are so even tempered and have such a docile temper.

If only men ruled the world....what a marvelous place this would be. :)

I know. THAT’s what you were saying. So really, we agree. //sarc

If you like the effect that female political equality has had on American politics, culture and law, our lost future, and freedom, and advancement, on everything, then you don’t know what has happened to us in the last 90 years, I wonder if you are conservative, if so then you should be able to see that it led to.

Freedom is not what women want, they want material goods, security and comfort, safety, they don’t build civilizations, they just want to live comfortably in one, anyone and don’t really care about what they call themselves, or their ideology, or whether they are free or not, as long as the living is OK.

Men have run things for thousands of years; anyone who wants to see what happens when women run things need only look at the West over the last 20 years. The Western cultures are disappearing, and the countries are being re-populated by other ancient cultures (from the East) run by men. Maybe the lesson learned is that when men are emasculated the birthrate falls through the floor?

In any case, I regularly see Hindu men walking with their females a few paces behind, Muslim men wrapping their females in burquas, etc.; these are the “replacement Americans”.

There just isn't enough quality men to go around for them.

Or at least what they consider to be quality men.

Worse than those pesky Mormons and Catholics you are always complaining about?

Down to 1980 or so women tended to vote Republican more than men.

Even in the last two elections McCain and Romney carried married women.

But say we could exile all the women and reproduce asexually as they do on your home planet, Ansel12 in the Dagobah system. You'd just find more men voting Democrat.
