I really hope he will bring the Jesuits back to the Catholic Church.
I am not Catholic but he seems like a good man..they made the right choice..today is a very blessed day all the best to Catholics all over the world
What’s wrong with Pope Jorge? Why Pope Francis?
Is there some history to it why they changed his name, or Jorge just too common...hispanic?
He has a sense of humor. He’ll need that.
Since he is not called Peter or Paul can we now put the end of the world comments behind us. Nostradamus did not get it right.
I spoke to God. He says my children will live a long and healthy life and the world, will not end.
Our first Pope from the New World!
they always take a new name
As a Jesuit, he’s referring to Francis Xavier, the Spanish Jesuit who evangelized India. That should give you a hint.
He's Pope Francis.
RE: Whats wrong with Pope Jorge? Why Pope Francis?
Maybe wants to follow the example of Francis of Assisi...
Catholics in Argentina should be very proud..I am not familiar with how this all works but isn’t Bergoglio the first Argentinian to be elected Pope?
Too bad that many citizens and legislators of the United States don’t honor the Constitution as much as the people in Rome and around the world watching the introduction of Pope Francis are honoring him.
I’m still in shock. I neeeever saw this one coming. Bergoglio was “too old,” everyone said.
I trust that the Cardinals were aided by the Holy Spirit when taking their vote, and that thus he is the right choice.
Not “Peter of Rome.” Rather Francis I of Argentina. So much for that load of “prophecies.”
He has a bit of what some characterize as a “social justice” streak, but outright rejected “liberation theology” some time ago. Apparently he really is a humble, devout, and no-nonsense kind of person. At least that’s what I’ve dug up in the past 10 minutes or so. Anyone else?
PS First Jesuit Pope.
Francis Xavier, not Francis of Assisi. Different religios orders.
“RE: Whats wrong with Pope Jorge? Why Pope Francis?

More likely to emulate Saint Francis Xavier, the great Spanish Jesuit.
