Colorado School Names Conservative-Studies Professor By DOUGLAS BELKIN

The University of Colorado, Boulder, is the kind of campus that conservatives have long criticized as a bastion of liberal groupthink. That perception could start to change this year.

The school on Wednesday named Steven Hayward, a former fellow at the Heritage Foundation think tank, as its first visiting scholar of Conservative Thought and Policy. The position, which was funded with private donations and is among the first of its kind on a U.S. campus, was created to broaden the intellectual diversity among the faculty, said Earl Wright, a Denver banker who sat on the selection committee and helped fund the position.

"We want students to have a chance to understand a conservative, free-enterprise approach to public policy," Mr. Wright said. "I think it's underrepresented on the campus."

A “Conservative” Professor at most of these colleges would be a Trotskyite.

Conservative studies? Most universities would try to put that under either abnormal psychology or pathology and infectious diseases.

Stephen Hayward has excellent conservative credentials. It's so easy to do one-click research before spouting off.

This is a positive development, although being named a "conservative" professor is like being named the "best woman (fill in the blank)". But it's a start. Try to be supportive here, freepers.

Edward Rozek, one of the nation's leading conservative intellectuals, once chaired the University of Colorado's Institute for Comparative Politics. Rozek, the author of Allied Wartime Diplomacy: The Pattern in Poland (New York: Wiley, 1958) would become an outspoken foe of political correctness and the lack of intellectual diversity in higher education. In the early 1980's, his enemies tried to railroad him into jail with 27 trumped-up criminal charges, all of which were dismissed. Dinesh D'Souza described this effort in his book Illiberal Education: The Politics of Race and Sex on Campus (New York: Free Press, 1991).

Rozek, who died in 2009, would be pleased that CU Boulder students will soon be able to study conservative thought and policy.

Hayward's appointment as the token campus conservative reminds me of the Samuel Johnson quote:

"Sir, a woman's preaching is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all."
from Boswell's Life of Johnson

My daughter goes to CU Boulder. It is a wonderful place. You seldom see teachers most classes like in most colleges today are taught by TA’s while the professors are getting research grants.

It is not has much the teachers but in every quad, the leftist students, more interested in politics approach and verbally attack virtually ever student that does not agree with their leftist cause. So it is peer to peer presure as opposed to adult to young adult and since I also have a teenage son - they never listen to what you say.

I go to a grocery store near a campus and when Greenpeace sends it members to the store doors and harass people as they go in and out you cannot believe the verbal abuse they hurl at you if you have no interest in saving the Brazilian rain forest.
