The U.S. war in Iraq has cost $1.7 trillion with an additional $490 billion in benefits owed to war veterans, expenses that could grow to more than $6 trillion over the next four decades counting interest, a study released on Thursday said.
The war has killed at least 134,000 Iraqi civilians and may have contributed to the deaths of as many as four times that number, according to the Costs of War Project by the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University.
When security forces, insurgents, journalists and humanitarian workers were included, the wars death toll rose to an estimated 176,000 to 189,000, the study said.
The report, the work of about 30 academics and experts, was published in advance of the 10th anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq on March 19, 2003.

Any “studies” on how many taxpayer dollars were thrown in the toilet during Barry the Sequesterer’s “Wealth Redistribution” fiasco?
F*** the author.
Saddam was killing over 100,000 per year. We reduced that to less than 200,000 total over a decade?
We’re HEROES!!
If it is Reuters it is BS.

Well, they should not have done what they did to piss us off.
and worth every penny of too, I’m sure
In 2012, Obama’s government spent 1.02 Trillion dollars on on dozens of supplemental entitlement programs over and above Social Security, Medicaid and the traditional like.
There are no indications, budget (entirely nonexistent) or otherwise, that this will EVER change during his reign.
This is just pointless diversion in my book.
Actually, I think we should nuke that f@cking country from orbit. It is the only way to be sure.
tripe
1. The sanctions that killed hundreds of thousands of children and teenagers were lifted.
2. Women who in the 90s watched their young daughters starve, watched them as young adults join the Iraq police forces.
3. Intelligence gathered in Iraq led directly to Bin Laden. Funny how Obama's only real success is owed to a hard decision his predecessor made and he opposed.
The biggest mistake we ever made. To pay for it we attack 'entitlements' and have to throw American citizens off the bridge. Screwed by phantom mushroom clouds, we would be welcome with flowers and oil would pay for it all. How did it happen?
