American Indian Tribe OKs Same-Sex Marriage, Lets Gay Couple Wed
March 15, 2013 in Harbor Springs, Mich. Tribal Chairman Dexter McNamara, center, officiated during the wedding after signing a measure approved by the tribal council that allows same-sex marriages on the reservation.
By Miranda Leitsinger.
The head of an American Indian tribe in Michigan signed a law approving same-sex marriage on Friday, joining at least two other tribes nationwide in doing so, then immediately wed a gay couple who had been together for 30 years but never thought they would see this day come.
Dexter McNamara, chairman of the 4,600-member Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in northern Michigan, and a member of the tribe wed Tim LaCroix, 53, and Gene Barfield, 60, of Boyne City. McNamara read the couple's vows and led the ceremony in English, and the tribe member conducted a traditional tribal ceremony in their language before dozens of wellwishers.
Im proud of my tribe for doing this and I love my husband, LaCroix said, with Barfield, who is not a tribe member, chiming in:"How could the world be better?
I'm just full of joy and happiness and I love my husband." A maple sapling, bent into a hoop with cedar, sage, tobacco and sweetgrass tied to it, was used in the traditional ceremony. The sweetgrass was lit, and the hoop was waved up and down over the couple to ward off evil spirits and bring in good spirits.

Nothing new here. This tribe among many others believed (and obviously still believes) in the berdache concept, aka “two-spirit”, which does manifest most often as transgenderism.
Ok. So just how do they figure out which one is the squaw???
So the Indian from “The Village People” finally tied the knot?
Can we be among the first to know when one man’s penis fits inside another man’s rectum?
Sometimes I think our nations only hope is for the Mormon Church to keep exploding in growth and take over our cultural institutions.
“I went to a gay Native American wedding once.”
As long as you skipped the bachelor party you can keep your man card...for now... ;)
“A maple sapling, bent into a hoop with cedar, sage, tobacco and sweetgrass tied to it.....” “The sweetgrass was lit.....”
That might look kinda cool, but it’s not going to get rid of the stench.
Something like Clorox Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner might help.
Tim will henceforth be known as Little Brown Thumper, while Gene will be known as Chief Tenderbottom.

Transgenderism doesn’t translate to homosexual, does it? I only have written records from the late 1700’s to go by for my Cherokee ancestors, but I, or no one else could really say how light some might have been in the moccasins. Prior to that, they were a matriarchal society, and raised some pretty strong women thru the 1900’s. I’ve never seen any reference to any of them being gay. I know my greatgrgrandmother & father would have never tolerated it and they were such strict Christians, I don’t think it existed in their culture.
There were lots of murders, wars, scalpings, political uprisings, but no mention of any gays.
In the berdache’s case, it did and does involve the homosexual aspect.
Just saw a discussion about native people not only accepting but encouraging homosexuality.
The reasoning (according to the expert) was because the effeminate men were taken out of the gene pool, which allowed stronger men to breed which produced strong children for the betterment of the entire community.
Sounded like a reasonable theory o me.
You forgot your sarcasm tag, as they are not opposed (as one might think) to homosexual unions because that allows them to argue for reinstatement of polygamy (yes it is still practiced in the celestial realm).
Oh, wait, maybe you just did not know that.
hahahahaha!!!!!!!!
Actually, I did not - I will research it.
When Coronado made his expedition to find the Seven Cities of Cibola he found, in Northern Mexico, a large number of villages populated with “Sodomites”.
I have also read that among some plains tribes, there were men would have several wives, including a “gay” one. The purpose was not sexual but the wives did all the hard work and a “gay” man was just another addition to the work force for the tribesman.
No matter how you cut it, it is still perversion.
I would agree. That's how many societies became polygamist, so a widow would not have to survive alone. As good an excuse as any I suppose!
Tonto marry Cochise - him brave fu**er.
To consummate the marriage, they both smoked the “piece pipe.”
