I wouldn’t call that a fail, that’s been going on for a real long time, standard practise was to put your thumb nail in the breech reflecting light so the inspector can see down the barrel and ensure proper maintenance was being carried out.

There is plenty wrong with that 'pose'. There's a magazine in the weapon, presumably loaded. Who has control of the weapon? NOT the inspector. OK in Swaziland maybe, but not at my range, or with any military establishment in this hemisphere, that I know of. The balance of yer post contradicts the first sentence.
Sorry for being a dick, but I am convinced that there is no such thing as an accident with a firearm. Always was, always will be. It's a principle with me. Negligence, whether personal or institutional is not an excuse, it's an indictment.

Militarizing the police is a bad idea to begin with: Isn't
there a law against that?

Seems odd that it would lock in place backwards.

I don't own an Eotech sight, but yeah, that's the first thing that crossed my mind. He was in a hurry and ended up placing the scope on backwards. ...And as recall seeing, Eotech sights have either thumbs screws to lock it down or they use a quick-detach lever like this one:

I don’t know, since he’s the one ducked behind the truck.

Did this SWAT team have a military advisor? Is Muppet camo dude named anywhere so this can be researched?

Careful there. Someone might accuse you of libertarianism; not liberalism mind you....

Yup. I used to read Sgt Rock comics as a kid. I also loved the J.E.B. Stuart with the tank one also.

The Germans could never hit that tank. 88s missed, Panthers missed, Tigers missed, Panzerfausts missed, and frozen, rocket, anti-tank teams missed in the Italian Alps (an actual J.E.B. Stuart episode). Hee.

Say i rob a bank tonight and 50 of these clowns show up 10 minutes later....
What the heck are they doing the other 19500 hours since the last robbery?

They keep these guys in a room playing nintendo every day waiting for the next hostage crisis??

*** Ol’ cynical me says that either some ‘higher up’ in the Dept or Union ‘Chain of Command’ had stock in another Company or, better yet, the Ammo required. ***

I know what you mean and Chi would be THE City for that. But no, that's not the case, it's just no Glocks for 'veteran' cops due to one idiot Commander who shot himself with his Glock.

Granted there are certain 'Cop Shops' that favor/cater the CPD for their gear and theoretically some Brass Hat 'could' be getting a kickback. But the cops can buy their guns (and ammo) wherever it's the cheapest, like anywhere OUT of stupid Cook County thanks to the high sales tax (Plus the new $.05 per round 'Bullet Tax').
