Its becoming more difficult for gun owners across the country to find safe haven, as the powers that be on both federal and state levels begin introducing a quagmire of anti-gun legislation hindering the rights of law-abiding citizens. States like Illinois are notorious for their anti-gun agendas, states like Texas are viewed as a shooters paradise.
To provide you, dear reader, with a primer of gun-friendly regions of the United States, weve analyzed all 50 statesand Washington, D.C.and ranked them to find out which are the most pro-gun.
States can score a maximum 10 points per category, with a perfect score of 50. Full disclosure, though: No state attained that perfect score, though two states came awfully close. As was expected, Washington, D.C., kicked off our list with a whopping zero points, and other anti-gun Meccas such as New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and California werent far behind.
States were measured on gun rights/friendliness to gun owners by the following criteria: CCW/Open Carry: Only states that dont require a permit for concealed or open carry scored a perfect 10 in this category. MSRs: States with no restrictions on the kind, type or number of modern sporting rifles (ARs, AKs, etc.) that can be owned or purchased scored a 10 in this category. Class 3/NFA: The majority of states allow their citizens to own Class 3/NFA-type firearms (machine guns, suppressors, short-barreled rifles, etc.), provided they follow the federal licensing standard, but not every state is yea or nay. Castle Doctrine/Stand Your Ground: States scores were determined based on how strong your the law is regarding self-defense in and out of the home, and whether in the right youre immune from civil prosecution. Miscellaneous: How pro-gun the state culture is has a lot to do with scoring in this category.

Wyoming?
Can’t read the article because it’s blocked at work.
‘The majority of states allow their citizens to own’
This is the entirely incorrect perspective from G&A. This should read something like ‘some states prohibit citizens from owning...’
The States aren’t supposed to be ‘allowing’ us our rights.
G and A ? didn’t they have some faux “second is fer huntin” fakir on their editorial board.
Seems like some editor needs to go to remedial constitutional law.
What’s your state constitution say?
If Indiana weren’t “mated” with the scummy southeastern portion of Illinois, this state would be much closer to #1 on the list...oh how I so wish we could excise this metastasizing tumor from the NW portion of Indiana...
Employees of Obama donor Leo Hindery Jr.s media conglomerate Intermedia Partners, which now owns most of the top gun-culture media outlets in the country, believe that Hindery plans to gut and destroy all of them as part of a business plan that has already led to numerous layoffs and the virtual shuttering of prominent television production facilities in Minnesota and Montana.
Hindery, who was in consideration to be President Barack Obamas secretary of commerce, is managing partner of Intermedia Partners. The New York-based media private equity fund owns Intermedia Outdoor Holdings, which publishes 17 hunting, fishing, and shooting magazines, including Guns & Ammo, Handguns, Gun Dog, Rifle Shooter and Shooting Times.
InterMedia Outdoor Holdings purchased the pro-gun hunting and fishing network the Sportsman Channel in 2007, and is now in the process of acquiring the Outdoor Channel, pending the federal governments approval of last months merger between InterMedia Outdoors and Outdoor Channel Holdings.
InterMedia employees believe that Hindery, a Huffington Post blogger who has contributed to numerous Democratic politicians including Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren, is in the process of consolidating all of Americas leading gun-culture media outlets and stripping them down to virtual destruction.
Arizona per The Guns & Ammo Network is nomber 1.
Arizona Constitution: Article 2, Section 26
“The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself or the State shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain, or employ an armed body of men.”

NC made 19- just above average. This was a nice part of the Missouri entry:
“A new bill was just introduced in the Missouri state legislature that would send lawmakers who introduce anti-gun legislation to prison, a week after a group of Democrats from St. Louis introduced an Assault Weapons Banwhich will get nowhere in the Republican-controlled state house.”
We need laws like that in every state and at the federal level....
6. Wyoming
CCW/Open Carry: 10
MSRs: 10
Class 3/NFA: 10
Castle Doctrine: 7
Miscellaneous: 10
TOTAL: 47
Wyoming residents can carry concealed or open, and Wyoming recognizes CCWs from 33 states. The state has Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground laws for inside the home, but the law does not excuse you from a duty to retreat outside the home. Wyoming has the highest percentage of gun owners per capita60 percentof any state.
Kansas here - #8.
I’m in Illinois, and I wish the cancer of Illinois (read Chicago and Springfield) could be excised from Indiana. I like Indiana, and it is deplorable that Illinois (again, read Chicago and Springfield) exerts the influence it does on Indiana.
Illinois would be a fine place if it were shorn on Chicago and Springfield (and East St. Louis).
1. Arizona
2. Vermont
3. Alaska
4. Utah
5. Kentucky
6. Wyoming
7. Alabama
8. Kansas
9. Missouri
10. New Hampshire
To Be Continued when you get home from work. :)
Idaho is #32? Uh...no.
If only they would / could do something about their “Whacko bird” senator.
The site just went down.
Castle doctrine is one fifth of the score and they only got 2 out of 10 points on it.
I was surprised that Texas was 15th with only 9 points in the castle doctrine. Doesn't Texas allow you to shoot the person who looked like he was going to break into your house and then hunt down his family? What do you have to do to get a 10?
Interesting that Vermont is in the best group.
We are ALWAYS told that states with loose gun laws have people shooting up the place. Vermont is second only to Maine as a low violent-crime state. Vermont and Maine also have other characteristics that may be a factor, but I don’t want to get into a racial discussion here.
DC, with its draconian gun laws, is worse than any state in violent crime. I’ll leave that as an exercise to the student.
