Venezuelan opposition candidate Henrique Capriles resumed his campaign today in the western part of the country. He faces off with interim president Nicolás Maduro on April 14, reported dpa news. …
“Not a single drop of oil is going to go for funding the government of the Castros in Cuba. Mr. Castro uses Venezuelans, our people, so that government is enriched… Nicolas is the candidate of the Castros. I am the candidate of Venezuela and Venezuelans,” said Capriles.
He said that socialism in Venezuela is no longer viable with the death of Hugo Chávez. Maduro claims just the opposite, saying he will continue the path begun by the recently deceased president. …

They own the government, the media and the military and their supporters march lock step (and probably vote fraud too)...

I said, when Chavez was elected, that he was president-for-life. He would not leave the presidency alive.
Maduro may not either. But I suspect he faces rivals a bit more dangerous than Capriles. The guys in charge of the army, and the “reserves”, and the police and secret police may have something to say about who resides in the palace. The Cubans too, for that matter. I would suspect there is some jockeying going on behind the scenes.
Publicly, Maduro has got to be more-Chavez-than-Chavez. He doesn’t have a political base of his own.

Latin American countries, some of them, get stuck in this cycle of envy, recrimination and self-pity which is hard to get out of.
A few countries have made progress enough to establish a middle class who feel they have a stake in the future and think their efforts will be rewarded.
Outside of Mexico, Chile, and Colombia it's a pretty short list though...

The odds of Maduro losing this upcoming election are about the same as my odds of being appointed God Emperor of Bohemia.
Just like what the left continues doing in the U.S. as well as throughout most of the world.

If that’s true, we’ve got a larger scale Grenada with no US intervention, Venezuela remains socialist/communist, an allie of BHO.
I figure he’s a shoe-in. Unless he’s caught with a live boy or a dead girl, I think he’ll win, and even if he was caught with a live boy AND a dead girl, he’d still probably win.
Though it might be really close, in that scenario.
In Venezuela the votes are counted by the government, just as they are in the US. And as in the US, you have no way of knowing who voted, in what numbers, or for whom. Our votes are counted by the SEIU, which runs the state voting processes, manages and maintains the machines, and counts the absentee ballots. The SEIU is our government. It is why the debates meant nothing, and why Obama knew he would be dealing with Putin after the “election.” It is why the polls seemed so remarkably wrong.
The same patterns are now present in Venezuela, which even deploys many of the same voting machines, owned, controlled, and maintained by the government. That being the case the machines really don't need to count anything. As Stalin pointed out, in Democracies all that matters is who counts the votes.
