You make a great point, which is easier to trade, which can you use, which would be better under such a scenario $5000 in a bank or $5000 worth of long term storage food, and everyday trade goods? And which is easier to obtain and to convert into other needed goods or services $5000 worth of gold or $5000, worth of long term storage food, and everyday trade goods?

Definitely food and trade over coins.
Gold: it does a body good... said no cook ever.
Although coins do make good sinkers for fishing lines, and they hurt when you throw them.

Life Gears Wings of Life survival backpack provides the ultimate in survival preparedness. It is a complete three day survival kit with food, water and essential survival gear. The food and water have a shelf life of five years, and can withstand a temperature range of -40 to +120 degrees F. Detachable wings of life help keep things organized, accessible and easy to find in stressful situations.I did the same thing for The Bride, but we found, at Sam's Club of all places, a Reddy Freddy bag. Has much, if not more, of the same complement of gear and supplies your Life Gear bag does, but it was a little steeper in price. The Bride has one, I'm getting the scratch together for two more. They work great as BOB's, GOOD bags, or whatever mission you need filled.

I like the sound of that - “Prophet Kartographer”. Has a certain ring to it.

Our plan is to use the motorcycle (if that bad) and go to the (2) nearby man-made lakes and use our filters.
The one thing I've never seen on Prepper Shows or Prepper threads, is the fact that every household has 50 gallons of potable water in their hot water heater (not to mention their toilet tanks). If not end world, that alone could last until services are restored. Attach a short length of hose to the drain outlet and you have drinkable water.
For hygiene, think baby wipes. We always have a supply of "Mom To Mom" unscented baby wipes.

In San Francisco the use of a water heater as a water source is well known or at least should be but my SIL experienced a strange phenomena when a water main down the hill from her ruptured. The break apparently caused a negative pressure situation in the local area water lines. She had a good portion of her water heater suctioned dry. Once the main was fixed the water heater refilled. In the event of an EQ water main breaks will be common. I think it might be wise to listen to your water supply line and you hear the sound of water flowing even though you have none on then shut off the cold water input to the water heater to avoid siphoning off of your emergency supply.
