State law already prohibits schools from discriminating on the basis of gender identity, but backers of the measure, AB1266, say some schools and school districts don't provide access to restrooms, locker rooms or sports teams that align with the identity of transgender students.
The bill would make it clear that the law requires that, they said.
"Transgender boys are boys, and transgender girls are girls, and this bill ensures they are treated as such," said Masen Davis,executive director of the Transgender Law Center, which is backing the bill introduced by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano,D-San Francisco.
Barring a transgender student from using a locker room that aligns with his or her gender identity can create barriers to achieving needed credits for graduating, backers said, and stopping a student from participating on a sports team diminishes involvement in school.
They said some students feel unsafe at school when they are required to use a restroom that doesn't match their gender identity. The proposed law includes the phrase that the access to programs, facilities and activities shall be granted "irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil's records."

This is not rocket science.
If people are allowed to choose their sexual identity, why can’t I chose my racial identity - especially when applying to a university or seeking a job? Maybe I’ll tell a university that I feel black today, and they should admit me and give me a full scholarship. And if they don’t give me one, I’ll sue for racial discrimination!

LOL - worth a try. I remember back when my daughter was looking for scholarships for college and I kept asking her if she was sure she wasn’t black.
I imagine a lot of teenage boys in California think their dreams are about to come true. All the need to do is change the signs on the locker rooms:

Wouldn’t you be the better authority on whether your daughter is “black?” After all, skin color is not a reliable guide, and you would know a lot better than she what you did that Saturday ni .... oh, never mind.
On my optimistic days, I think that mixed marriages will solve the race problem faster than many suspect. My daughter has a couple of friends (and soccer teammates) who are of mixed black/white and black/white/hispanic heritage. Super kids, good families, very bright, and if they weren’t good friends of my daughter’s whom I’ve watched grow up, I would probably notice that they have blossomed into strikingly attractive young ladies. (As a dad, I don’t notice such things. But I’m keeping the shotgun handy just in case ....) As far as race is concerned, they’re about as “black” as Elizabeth Warren is Cherokee.
To their credit, their families have not tried to game the system.
On more than one occasion, when the subject has arisen, I’ve hauled out a team photo and asked some grandstanding liberal to pick out the black girls and explain why they should be entitled to racial preferences. Works every time since the young ladies to which I refer are whiter than you or me, with dads who could “pass” (repugnant term) and Anglo mothers. Why liberals in this day and age remain attached to the one drop rule is beyond me.
We ALL knew this was coming shortly after gays started to marry.
Here’s my suggestion: CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE. Simply take advantage of the law...and that means ALL the guys call themselves ‘transgendered’ and hang out in the girls’ locker room...and shower there. THE ENTIRE FOOTBALL TEAM.
It will be interesting to see what happens from there, as EVERY student has grounds for a lawsuit if they’re accused of being part of an organized plan (as opposed to identifying as a girl).
When I was in college, I used to propose stuff like that - you’d be SHOCKED at just how quickly I got results.
