For insurance exchanges, states need ‘navigators’ — and hiring them is a huge task

Signing up an estimated 30 million uninsured Americans for coverage under the health-care law is shaping up to be, if not a bureaucratic nightmare, at the very least a daunting task.

While some people will find registering for health insurance as easy as booking a flight online, vast numbers who are confused by the myriad choices will need to sit down with someone who can walk them through the process.

Enter the “navigators,” an enormous new workforce of helpers required under the law. In large measure, the success of the law and its overriding aim of making sure that virtually all Americans have health insurance depends on these people. But the challenge of hiring and paying for a new class of workers is immense and is one of the most pressing issues as the Obama administration and state governments implement the law.

Tens of thousands of workers will be needed — California alone plans to certify 21,000 helpers — with the tab likely to run in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

The navigators are needed to help Obamacare applicants fill out the 21 page application...just to find out if a person or family qualifies to pay four times as much as they used to...offset by an inadequate tax credit.

So they have made millions of people totally dependent on government-chosen “helpers” to guide them in making life-and-death decisions. People are now, thanks to the government, unable to make those decisions for themselves. Created dependency. Exactly what BO wanted. Guess we know what was in that bill now, and it is extremely ugly, not to say Orwellian.

I hate and loath nobamacare as much, if not more than, the next FReeper.

But as we go along and get more and more exposed to what a leviathan maze this is becoming, I’m beginning to think this thing may collapse under its own weight.

....and.....this is in the cost estimates for 0bamacare, right? Or, do they just become IRS employees and add to the 16.5K new IRS agents?

Or...are they to become DHS employees? Since they are going to be checking on compliance with various regulations.

In the states that agreed to implement the exchanges these navigators will be state employees and their cost must be built into the insurance premium for plans offered through the exchange.

The micro-economics simply don’t work for any insurance company to be able make money in a state exchange because the price they would have to charge to provide all of the “fee” (not) mandated coverage is beyond the means of the middle class.

Thanks for the clarification.

I can’t wait for the avalanche of screaming and wailing that’s going to occur when people see their med care costs going through the roof. Unfortunately, I am one of them.

Each and every damned thing that the opponents of 0bamacare said would happen, is happening.

Chief Justice Roberts should be tarred and feathered for being this disaster on the USA. He should be blamed right along with the First Marxist for destroying the medical system in America.

Really? What about the other 4 Justices that made the same ruling? Why does the only Justice, who isn't a confirmed ideologue, deserve all your vituperation?

Roberts had complete power over the future of our nation - your children , grandchildren. The other votes were already determined. He was the most powerful man in the history of our nation at that moment and he decided to move the u.s. to socialism and eventual death. He is an intelligent man andknew the ramifications of his single vote, yet he made that decision anyway. So either he was blackmailed, stood to profit handsomely, or truly believes in socialism. So in the end, he is a traitor.
