GOP's Rand Paul, Dems' Luis Gutierrez in step on immigration reform
Christian Science Monitor ^ | March 19, 2013 | David Grant

Posted on 03/22/2013 8:49:59 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D) and Sen. Rand Paul (R), in separate forums Tuesday, struck common ground on some of the thorniest issues surrounding immigration reform. Is a bipartisan deal close?

In the immigration reform debate now under way in Washington, Democrats and Republicans are taking a steady march in one direction: toward one another.

On Tuesday morning, a leading Democratic advocate of immigration reform said his party would not require a special path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, in keeping with a key Republican demand.

At nearly the same moment some two blocks away, a 2016 Republican presidential contender and tea party favorite embraced legal status and potential citizenship for the nation’s 12 million undocumented people, which have been Democratic desires for more than a decade.

That's not to say the immigration reform debate is over – far from it.

But when Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D) of Illinois, a Chicago progressive who got himself arrested outside the White House protesting Arizona’s tough immigration law, and Sen. Rand Paul (R) of Kentucky, a heartthrob of the conservative activist set and heir to the Paul family libertarian fame, stake out common ground on immigration reform? That’s saying something.

Senator Paul joined a list of GOP immigration reformers who say they’re willing to provide a pathway to legal status for 12 million illegal immigrants, provided it's paired with enhanced border security and no unique path to American citizenship.

I meant to add.......I’m 1,000 miles away from his district, yet he cared enough to send that letter.

He said he opposed amnesty, but then went on to promote just that arguing “The solution doesn’t have to be amnesty or deportation-a middle ground might be called probation where those who came illegally become legal through a probationary period.”

To me he used the ultimate lie and deliberate deception: the amnesty word game. And I've posted this before, but in a debate with Kerry in 2004, W plainly stated that he opposed amnesty and that we couldn't reward illegal behavior. And we know what happed in 2206 and 2007.

Playing the amnesty word game when discussing the illegal alien problem is far worse than plain old lying, because it contains both a lie as to intent and a calculated deception by playing games with the definition of the word amnesty.

We don't need politicians like W and Rand who play games on such a critical issue.

>>> Rand Paul Amnesty Ping! <<<

How DARE you accuse Rand Paul of amnesty!!! Rand has SAID he would NOT support a pathway to citizenship UNLESS the borders are secured FIRST, and Rand would NEVER lie to us. (of course, when Marco says the same thing, we scream that he's a dirty filthy open borders La Raza lover). Besides, amnesty is INEVITABLE, better to have a heroic tea party savior in charge of it than anyone else. You MUST be for Boenher/Jeb Bush 2016 if you're attacking the ONE great tea party patriot we have in the Senate. What's your agenda, Boenher lover? This is Rand Paul we're talking about. Rand OPPOSED Brenner (of course, it doesn't matter if he rubber stamped Hagel while the RINOs actually voted NO on that one) Rand is the man who stood up the Marxists. Rand is NOT his dad. I am NOT part of the Ron Paul crowd. I agree with 95% of what Rand says, but maybe only 5% of Ron says. There are HUGE differences between where the two of them stand on important issues, like ummm....er... ah.... I'll get back to you on that one. Bottom line: it's ONLY treasonous if someone NOT named "Rand Paul" works with illegal alien lover Luis Guiterrez on amnesty. #IstandwithRand!!!!

RE “Senator Paul joined a list of GOP immigration reformers who say they’re willing to provide a pathway to legal status for 12 million illegal immigrants, provided it's paired with enhanced border security and no unique path to American citizenship.”

Rand tried this on Cavuto the other day and like the others he is being slippery with his words, ‘ no unique path to American citizenship’.

What he means by this is they get the same path to voting in same time wait as someone waiting LEGALLY OUTSIDE THIS COUNTRY to get a Green card, while THEY (Reformed illegals/Dreamers)GET TO BE WAITING HERE.

And on a prior Cavuto show they pointed out that doing that as amnesty is in-fact giving them a jump ahead in line over those doing the wait legally.

Even if Dreamer A (illegal) and (legal) immigrant B have to wait the same time to get voting, because A got their wait here while the other B was in say Mexico the lawbreaker A definitely got to jump ahead in line.
'A' gets a resume with US jobs for all that time, and gets ahead in US. But Sucker 'B' is way behind for following the rules.

They ALWAYS pull this crap.

Very, Simple, no one here illegally ever gets US citizenship short them leaving and applying the way they are supposed to, from the country they came from

OK RPDSer, Rand’s not perfect on immigration but he stood up to Obama where it counted on that nomination filibuster. That took real guts. That is what we need as leadership
Where are your priorities? No candidate is perfect. 'Judge not, that ye be not judged',
You should meet my nanny Maria and she would change your mind, you are scaring her and her 6 children.
She is really good with the kids, so we are not deporting her at least not till OUR kids are in school. My wife is sure not staying home with them

DA-DA :)

The only thing the government should be giving illegals is a map to where they came from.
_____________________________________________

In 1783 the Loyalists still living in NYC were given 24 hours to leave the US and go north into Canada...

The new American government didnt pay their way or give them anything...

Their own countrys government, the British, provided ships and had a flotilla going back and forth to Nova Scotia and moved 10s of 1000s in 24 hours or so...

So it has been done before...

Plus lets not forget President Ike in the 1950s and the MILLION or so illegal aliens he sent back to Mexico in just a few days, weeks...

But as for a map, the coyotes know the way...

If I gave Rand a free pass on this I would be a hypocrite for holding Ryan’s feet to fire on his deceptions and lame points.

True.

Show me a man who claims he’s a conservative, and who is for amnesty, and I will show you a DOUBLE-BREASTED LIAR!

Rand Paul Amnesty Ping!

I don't know why you're pinging me. I already said that unless Cruz or Palin steps up I'm balls to the wall for Paul. I care about the Constitution, Guns and Life. Don't give a crap about mexicans.

No, but you have to be right on the issues that destroy or save our nation.

Granting amnesty (call it whatever you want) to at least 20 million who are here illegally helps to ensure that leftist dems will be elected without a fight for the next generation.

Take your crusade against Rand some place else.

Rand has the BEST conservative voting record in the US Senate:

This isn't a crusade against Rand Paul, this is a crusade against the one action that will destroy the GOP and this nation, Amnesty.

This is a crusade against a bunch of pretend conservatives that are lying about their Amnesty plans.

What good is that voting record if he enables the tool of the left that will destroy the GOP?

What good is that voting record if he is pushing for the GOP to soften it's message on Social Issues?

What good is that voting record if his actions help to push away the base of this party, actual, true conservatives.

Christians and others who demand of their representatives that they fight for those laws that protect the unborn, that don't allow the militant Gay Mafia to redefine and destroy our culture by pushing the Gay Agenda through Gay Marriage and Hate Laws, etc.
