Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a phone call arranged with help from President Obama, apologized to Turkey Friday for the deaths of its citizens during a 2010 Gaza flotilla raid -- in a move to restore ruptured ties between the two nations.

Netanyahu acknowledged "operational mistakes" in the raid, according to one official, and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accepted the apology.

The phone call, which Obama also joined, was described as a "first

This seems really weird. out of the blue Bibi decides to call, since Obama is there? This stinks, it looks like Obama strong-armed him to do it.

re: “I wanna puke.”

I’m with you - what in the world does Obama have on Netanyahu?? Obama had already thrown Israel under the bus during his first term - why the apology?? BARF!

If Israel gives too much to the forces of evil, they will be destroyed again. Nothing personal, just a teaching exercise.

I agree. This is notably odd. However, I feel certain that if another flotilla sails that it will be met with determined force. I’m certain that Turkey knows this. It seems that everybody in the diplomatic world are adults and our side is represented by children who google the Russian word for “reset” without even speaking to their subordinates who deal with the other side.

From Netanyahu's office: "Netanyahu “expressed Israel’s apology to the Turkish people for any mistakes that might have led to the loss of life or injury” aboard the aid ship raided by Israeli commandos in May 2010, his office said in a text message."

That's a far cry from the implication that Bibi apologized for the raid itself.

Netanyahu is the closest man the modern world has to Winston Churchill. He may be the most professional (and patriotic) leader the world currently has. I trust him. And, I think he’ll do whatever he needs to do to protect Israel. He may be held back by threats from Obama, but he’ll manage to get the “job” done one way or another.

I was horrified before reading Bibi’s statement, but the wording is a clever nonapology & sends an unmistakeable message to the Turks, “We’ll be much better prepared for your next time.”

Obama didn’t get the grovelgram he was expecting.

Net couldn't call himself?? He needed Obama's help?

Give me a break. Turkey must be laughing their a** off because they wouldn't let the US attack Iraq from the north via Turkey.

The UN ruled Israel's blockade as legal. The problem with those killed was they picked the fight and Israel retaliated....The UN said Israel was too aggressive.

The apology is/was a sham....and everyone knows it except Obama.

Then what about the compensation the Israelis are going to pay to the surviving family members of the dead Turks?

Holy cr@p, I forgot about the blood money. Probably following the Koranic formula for the worth of one muzzie’s misbegotten life, but probably a drop in the bucket next to the billions the Israelis have spent on the Palis who still hate them & want them to die.

Money for moral savages! It makes me sick.
