Jay Leno Ratings: Losing His Job Despite Beating His Rivals

One of NBC's reasons for replacing Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show" is its hope that Fallon can compete with Jimmy Kimmel for younger viewers.

So Kimmel must be trouncing Leno in that demographic, right?

Actually, no.

Leno is being shuffled from "Tonight" despite leading in the 18-49 demo most important to advertisers, in the 25-54 demographic most often used to gauge late night audiences, and in total viewers.

Leno is an equal opportunity mocker, but that is the only compliment I can give him. Leno is not funny and when he feels like he has to repeat the punch line twice (which he does to almost every joke) he really turns me off.

Mr Ditter wants to watch the first part of his show every night because he likes the newspaper headline and misprint thingy he often does.

Then he goes OFF unless he has a guest that I like a lot, most of his guest I have never heard of (yes I am behind the times).

No the reason is he’s a prima donna that pissed off NBC brass with his last “retirement” and has been regularly mocking them on the show. Don’t make fun of the guys that sign your paycheck, even if you’re right.

I like this line in Wiki:

"Westerns had already been targeted for cancellation after concerns of violence led to pressure from parents' groups to tone down violence in television, and by 1969, no new Westerns were debuting."

Yep! "The Virginian" was just too violent...

Rumor is Leno to Fox in 2014 after his NBC contract fully expires.

Fox to run the show at 11 pm.

What I`d like to see if Leno lined up at Fox same time as Fallon, crush him in the rating and move RedEye to 12:30 am.

THAT would be killer.

Why don’t they just replace him with Chris Tingle. He’s a laughing stock.

Jimmy Tingle? Or Christingle?

Jimmy Tingle got a reputation as that left-wing comedian. Maybe it's true, but he's always been a Boston guy -- something people either love or hate on its own without politics getting in the way.

"Comedy people" (whoever they are) looked down on Leno for his "cornball" humor. But Jay is what he always was. And Carson, who all late night hosts claim to admire, was "cornball" for years and years.

I was always more disappointed by Letterman's descent from being a very edgy, innovative comedy pioneer on NBC to being equally cornball (and a lot creepier and more disturbing, as well as more pompous) on CBS.

Leno's just Leno , just who and what he's always been. What happened to the other guys when they moved into the earlier time slot, Letterman and O'Brien, is just sad.

On The Five, the very, very late night host Greg Gutfeld pointed out that the whole set-up was changing. People are now watching TV shows at any time -- or they will be very soon. So the idea of the mild 11:30 milquetoast and the wild 12:30 kook isn't going to be as strong in the future.

“Jay will end up with Fox News, and take his crowd with him.”

I have read this before on a previous posts. What is he going to do at Fox News?

What is he going to do? Drive his millions of viewers to Hannity and Gretta.

They should put him on at 10 ET and bump Gretta to 11.
