We're All CVS Employees Now
American Thinker ^ | 3/23/2013 | Tara Servatius

CVS employees, and the rest of America, had better get used to turning over personal health information like their glucose levels and body mass index to their insurers - and to the federal government.

Starting in 2014, per the dictates of the federal government, your doctor must record your body mass index (BMI), which measures whether you are overweight, each time he or she treats you and turn it over to the government via your electronic health record, which every patient is required to have.  Your BMI will then be tracked by the Health and Human Services Department, the agency rolling out ObamaCare, and a bevy of other state and federal agencies.

Shock and anger ensued this week as CVS employees learned that if they didn't turn over that information to their insurers, they'd be fined.  But CVS is merely rolling out what may become one of the most controversial aspects of ObamaCare a little ahead of schedule.

One needs only to look to Europe to see how our political elites will use ObamaCare, and the BMI weight measure they are so determined to record for each of us, to intrude into and regulate not just our health care, but our lives.

In the U.K., overweight patients or those who smoke are branded "undeserving" and denied treatments like cataract surgery (without which they could eventually go blind) and knee and hip surgery, leaving some who don't qualify for the surgery in agonizing pain.  Some of the U.K.'s "trusts," which regulate the national health care system for various zones of the country, go farther, denying all operations to those who don't meet the government's weight dictates except for lifesaving surgery on their hearts, brains or to remove cancer.

Go to the doctor when you are ill and forget checkups. No data, no records, no government intrusion.

Up until the 50s, that’s what people did. No health insurance, either.

"But sodomy will be OK."

It actually sounds like sodomy will be required and administered by the government. What will happen when you go to the doctor for a specific issue and refuse the standard weigh in, blood pressure, etc. Will you be refused treatment?

But it will be safe since the proper way to do it will be taught in government schools.

And the people who voted for him will have to go through this as well. Those people blamed the right for being too hard on Obama. It was just the warning that some knew to give. The Obamas will never have to face this treatment nor most of the ruling class.

Cry me a river. Did they lose weight or quit smoking ? I sure as hell don’t want to subsidize the added medical charges incurred by the people not taking care of themselves.

Here's a dollar.

Consider it overcompensation for your share of my 'added costs'.

Use it for some lube when you go F yourself.

When my PCP (primary care physician of 23yrs) had computers installed in the exam rooms, 5-6yrs ago, I knew this ‘electronic info sharing’ was coming, and the gov’t would get ahold of it. He assured me it would stay within the Wellspan Medical System here in PA, but it hasn’t.

Everything you tell them is recorded and shared on the networks.

Geisinger Health (PA) does the same thing, and has for years. K-P (Kaiser-Permanente) in CA, too. They’re all interconnected and the gov’t is an intrusive part of that data-sharing system, for the insurance companies.

0scumbagCare has usurped and collected all of the data.

Since when does smoking or being overweight cause cataracts?

I sure as hell don’t want bureaucrats making these decisions for me on the basis of arbitrary guidelines established by other bureaucrats.

What makes you think that government bureaucrats have any right to punish someone with blindness because they use a legal product, or their genetics make them prone to being overweight?

This story reveals one of the biggest problems with the health insurance system—it is largely “employer-funded” (that is, employers use money that would otherwise be available as wages to buy health insurance).

Individuals/Families should buy their own health insurance. Issues such as these, along with pre-existing conditions all go away. Insurance companies compete, and set premiums based upon risk— including personal habits that increase the likely need for expensive treatments. People remain free to act as they wish, with the attendant costs.

Do you like eggs, milk, cream, cheese, beef, bacon? Remember that government busybodies are continuously looking for the next thing to throttle the public with. It never stops with just the ‘objectionables’ of smoking or being too fat. The government will never take its boot off your neck no matter how what regulations you comply with; there is always the next regulation... and the next. It’s the ruling classes form of enjoyment to have power and use it.

I sure as hell don’t want to subsidize the added medical charges incurred by the people not taking care of themselves.

I dare say, our new Overlords, those who will be in charge of ObamaCare, those bureaucrats populating the "death panels," our equivalent of the UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence ("NICE" LMAO!), control freaks like Michael Bloomberg, will find plenty of behaviors/conditions in your own life to classify you as undeserving.

Do you smoke? Does someone in your house smoke? (Pot is OK.) Do you drink? Do you eat fatty foods? Salt? Sodas? What is your body/fat ratio? Any genetic defects in your family? (We can't have you burdening the collective with the onerous cost of defective genes.) Sweets? Spend too much time in the sun? Do you eat your mandatory four cups of vegetables per day?

How about your extracurricular activities? Do you mountain climb? Skydive? Play football? Baseball? (Softball is probably OK, pending further review.) Lift weights unattended? Seat belts on at all times? Any firearms in the house...?

Be careful what you wish for, FRiend. Because you're about to get it. Unless we get some Divine intervention really soon, you'll be in the unenviable position of never being able to make one single solitary decision about your life ever again. That is, if you want to be officially approved to receive "health care."

I had a voluntary health screening.. They said my BMI was high.. Here is the thing, I workout.. Never mind if I went by the BMI standard, I would be skinny as a rail.. That is why I don’t like the BMI..
