NYC Mayor Bloomberg: Government has right to ‘infringe on your freedom’
The Washington Times ^ | March 25, 2013 | Cheryl K. Chumley

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Sunday: Sometimes government does know best. And in those cases, Americans should just cede their rights.

“I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom,” Mr. Bloomberg said, during an appearance on NBC. He made the statement during discussion of his soda ban — just shot down by the courts — and insistence that his fight to control sugary drink portion sizes in the city would go forth.

Don’t know nothing about New York, but I know a Nazi when I see one. Pull your head out.

Your post emphasizes my point.

I don't like Bloomberg and I am arguing that tarring all New Yorkers by association with him is unfair.

And now you post this comment implying that I am somehow defending Bloomberg.

One thing conservatives are supposed to have over the left are our reasoning skills.

Use them.

“’the interwebs say he won 50.6 to 46.0 last time’

And those two figures add up to 100%, by your math?

The “anybody but Bloomberg” vote was, and remains, 49.3%.”

That is the most unusual way I have ever seen an election interpreted.

You want me to compare it to Obama? OkeeDokee.

Bloomberg won re-election by 20% the first time.
Barry Won re-election by 3.9% the first time....or 1.1% the way you interpret elections

Bloomberg changed his own term limit law.
Barry hasn’t.

Bloomeberg’s approval rating is 50%.
Barry’s approval rating is 47.8%.

Bloomberg currently has the city attorneys pusuing his soda ban fetish in court.
Barry’s latest ploy to raise taxes by playing a game of sequester chicken has failed.

I’d say Bloomberg has been more successful than Barry at pushing his agenda. And look at how bizzare his agenda fetishes are - hiding cigarettes, restricting soda size. In a sane world he would have been run out of town by recall election years ago. But not in NYC.

“The whole “tough New Yorker” cliche is a sham. These people are babies if they’ve allowed this little control freak to run their lives.”

Lmao. You honestly think the “tough New Yorkers” care about these laws?

They know the laws Bloomturd spouts are meant for the cattle sitting on the government dole or the "slaves" imported to do the dirty work. The intent is to keep them in line, fill the city coffers with fines and keep the city health-care costs lower.

Selective enforcement is so blatant that people who “know people” now get cards or mini badges that they keep in view when approached by cops. You can get away with practically anything unless you harm or steal from someone else that "knows people".

Contrary to what the law says, the "right" people are allowed to speed, drive drunk, buy/sell untaxed cigarettes, smoke in bars, cheat taxes, use drugs and even carry guns.

Complete freedom for some, police state for others...

What are you talking about?..

the fact that this little turd was reelected says it all. The fact that the sheep in NYC allow the government to make them jump through hoops, pay off the graft, tolerate the collar around their neck and are grateful that at least they are allowed to live without the ability to defend themselves, is so pathetic it's actually sad.

the problem for me is that the intelligentsia want that cr@p down here. They somehow think that "mass transit" will work in areas of the country with diffuse suburbs and no local or focal point of business. They think that everyone wants to suck off the government nipple and all the other crappy ideas that have destroyed every single city and state that the policies of the democrat party have governed.

I've had family shed blood for this country , but I made sure that my son never even considered joining the Marines to risk his life for the parasites and grifters that make up our federal government and are infused by the ideas like this little sh#t head Napoleonic punk.

I have actually come to the conclusion that if Texas was "kicked out" of the USA it would be just a great day all around.

That is the most unusual way I have ever seen an election interpreted.

Your argument is that Bloomberg won some resounding victory indicating that New Yorkers are radically supportive of him and his agenda. But 49.3% of New Yorkers voted against him.

loomberg currently has the city attorneys pusuing his soda ban fetish in court. Barry’s latest ploy to raise taxes by playing a game of sequester chicken has failed.

Obama did not personally hire or personally endorse the continued employment of all members of Congress. They each ran for election in their own districts.

NYC's corporation counsel is directly appointed by Mayor Bloomberg.

I pointed this out before, allow me to clarify further:

Bloomberg can fire any city attorney because they work for him and do what he tells them to do.

US Congressmen cannot be fired by Obama because they do not work for him and he is not allowed to tell them what to do.

I’d say Bloomberg has been more successful than Barry at pushing his agenda.

Quite a bit of what Bloomberg's agenda has been pushed aside over the past few years.

And look at how bizzare his agenda fetishes are - hiding cigarettes, restricting soda size.

All the initiatives you have mentioned, except one (the transfat labelling), were introduced in his third term.

He is not running again, and he is going for broke, introducing anything that enters his head.

In a sane world he would have been run out of town by recall election years ago. But not in NYC.

New York State does not permit recall elections. It is one out of 17 or 18 states that do not have them.

Again, all the criticisms you are levelling against New Yorkers on the basis of Bloomberg could with equal justice be levelled at all Americans on the basis of Obama.

Not only is your argument specious, it would have no practical value even if it were not.

Your argument, boiled down to its essentials, is: New Yorkers are jerks and I'm not!

Great stuff.

“This man is a dangerous maniac - one among MANY who populate our elected offices - MOST of them SERIAL OFFICE HOLDERS!!!”

He’s running a test case. He’s finding out how far he can push and get away with it and the other globalists are watching him closely. I wonder what group he reports back to? He basically has an army at his command to ensure the proles don’t get out of line and to protect him and the rest of the oligarchs that run the city and fleece the populace.

No, let Bloomy keep his guns — totally disarm his bodyguards.

Then watch him change his tune regarding gun possession. The guy is a despicable coward but for the fact that he has a bodyguard.

the fact that this little turd was reelected says it all.

Which President did Americans reelect in 2012? Did they reelect him by a larger majority than New Yorkers reelected Bloomberg?

he sheep in NYC

Those New Yorkers do have a mote in their eye, don't they?

And some "conservatives" heartily agree when the subject is vices like (some) drugs, porn, or prostitution.
