My former condo is in the background - I used to watch the action at Nellis through binoculars from the 20th floor. The Thunderbirds are a lot better up close, though. :)

we are flying 1957 model Kc-135’s 1960-1961 model b-52’s and C-130’s just as old. time for congress and THE ONE to get there heads out of the south end and upgrade the fleet same with the Navy. Spending all money so IT and his Wookie can go on all these vacations is enough.

No obstacles close enough as the building you see are on the new Strip which is line of sight ten miles away.

The Stratosphere is on the right side of the picture and planes landing at McCarran approach under the elevation of the top of it. I have been there on the Big Shot watching 737’s approaching the N/S from the north under where I was on top of that structure.

My mother lives on Lamb Blvd and noise abatement is also not something they seem to worry about with the F-15’s and other flamers doing it full blast on takeoffs.

Red Flag is an exercise to test combat readiness and I could see that this was a purposely executed landing to simulate what they might expect.

The picture was shot with the full F-stop which would show everything in focus which in turn would screw up the depth of field making the building look much closer than they are.

I thought so too. That close to the strip it would have to be McCarran (sp).

One of my son’s was active air force at the end of Carters adm. and into Reagans. He said 1/2 the time only 1/2 of the planes could fly due to scavenageing parts to keep some planes up.....When Reagan became Pres. the parts started rolling in...Democrats always cut military, in fact the military is about the only area that gets real cuts....

So that photo does not depict the normal published approach for that airfield and is likely a short field landing exercise?

“Old BUFFs don’t get that way by accident.”

Or can it now be said that any currently airworthy B-52 is a “Franken-BUFF”?

I see some indications of a crosswind which would be expected in the Las Vegas area. I’ve observed buffs landing from the flightline and seen more than a few that are making a straight-on approach except that the entire fuselage is skewed sideways. An amazing aircraft and what a CMSgt I worked with used to refer to as “a real bomber”.

Even more amazing, there are some B52 pilots whose father and grandfather flew the same airframe they currently pilot.

Telephoto lenses tend to make distances look compressed.

LOL, the days of the Hangar Queen or CANN (cannibilization) Bird. Each bird would be cannibilized for parts for a period of 30 days then it was put back together.

Those days are coming again.

I’+ve heard that too, from USAF and PA ANG friends and former customers. They told me stories which gave me chills.

Just haven fun with ya.I had an E8 or 9 Aviation Mech Chief in the CG and he would refer to the receip engines on our planes as motors.Me being an Av Electrician I would always get on him and tell him they were engines not motors..That reminded me of back then.
