Las Vegas wedding businesses: We’d love to see gay marriage legalized

Loosen his bow tie and snuggle up, you two,” says Las Vegas photographer Linda Quackenboss, directing a camera-shy couple sitting for portraits in her studio.

Reaching out, Phil Pineda does as he’s told and loosens Mel Cole’s bow tie. “There’s my GQ smile!” the petite 53-year-old tells the couple, who will be celebrating their fifth anniversary this fall. “Maybe I can shoot your wedding soon.”

For Quackenboss, who estimates that 30 percent of her clientele are members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, the suggestion is more than friendly conversation. It’s marketing.

Okay then... having never been to LV and considering it for our first wedding anniversary, I’m now convinced I will NOT be going to LV... ever...

Las Vegas lawyers are even more anxious for the gay divorce business!

We’d love to see gay marriage legalized..

And donkey wedddings, and child weddings, and polygamy, and incest....

It all pays the bills, right?

THAT is for sure. I know a lesbian couple who’ve been together about 20 years now. There friends (all gay) always ask them how they do it. Most are incapable of sustaining a long-term relationship.

A teacher, who is a friend of my wife’s, also worked part time as a waitress at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn, in Sudbury. She was giggling telling us about the upturn in business they got from the legalization of gay “marriage” in Massachusetts.

She wasn’t giggling about the increased business, more along the lines of trying not to giggle during gay wedding banquets. There is an “authentic” New England wedding chapel (The Martha-Mary Chapel) next to the Wayside Inn. The pinnacle of hoity-toity weddings in Massachusetts is to have your wedding in the Martha-Mary Chapel and reception in the Wayside Inn.

It's really funny how the "conversation" on "gay marriage" never seems to focus on how much $$$ the legal profession is going to make off of it. Why, if I was cynical, I might even say the legal profession -- you know, the profession most members of Congress belong to? -- was behind the whole thing. Nawww. Couldn't be.

Nawwwwww.

Of course a Las Vegas marriage mill is going to support gay marriage. The city of quick, no-questions marriages and quickie divorces is a symptom of how society has undermined the definition of marriage for the past 40 years. Gay marriage is just the latest assault.

Oh what a blessing it would be if communities of Gays and Lesbians moved to Nevada! I hope they do legalize it there!

She is why my heart continues to beat. She is why I bother to take another breath. She remains my only fantasy and her voice is my favorite music.

When I look into her eyes, I still see the beauty of a youthful and exciting 20 year old woman, my true blessing from God.

She says that I look at life through the eyes of a child, yet, if there is any youth still within me, she is the reason.

A few days before our first anniversary, I told her that I thought she should buy a couple of wine glasses and that we would only use them for a toast on each anniversary. I jokingly added that our marriage would last as long as the glasses.

On our first anniversary, she brought out a bottle of wine....... and two long stem Solid Brass Chalices. LOL

We committed to making a toast on each and every anniversary. During the days that I was out of town on business, she always packed my chalice and we would make the toast over the phone. We have used wine, milk, water even Kool-Aid, whatever we had... but we have never missed a toast.

For our first anniversary, we took my old 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser into a forest near the coast and camped in our new $36 tent. We woke up to 3’ of fresh snow and a flat tire... I had a hangover. Having survived that day, I somehow knew we would weather any storm. LOL

That all started over 40 wonderful and blessed years ago....and the Honeymoon continues.

I have always believed that it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.

LOL... I wrote all of that to simply say, “Happy Anniversary”. ;>)

I married an older woman, a widow, and I was over 30 when I did it. I have absolutely no regrets. We are absolutely quite the pair. I thank you very much for your kind words, Gator, and I will be sharing them with my wife.

That guy should remember that whathappens in Vegas should STAY in Vegas... and his statement should have stayed in Vegas.

if a 14 can get married, are you going to let a 23 y/o marry a 14 y/o boy?/ If not, can they sue you for discrimination??

Vegas would boom. Married on Sunday, divorced by Thursday.

I almost wish gay marriage was legal. It would be worth it for the divorce comedies alone. Messy, messy breakups from gay people. The divorces would be hilarious. Well, the ones that don’t involve murder, attempted murder, etc.
