Preliminary results from Mancos shale wells in northwestern New Mexico are boosting industry excitement about a new oil and gas boom in the region.

I used to live up the La Plata river and still wish I was there. Back in the 1970s there were gas wells everywhere, but the last time I was there they had replaced the gas well heads with oil pumps, something I never saw back in the 1950s or 70s.
This nation is literally submerged in its energy sources. We can run for hundreds of years on our oil, gas and coal reserves. The Ludite Libs want everyone back into caves. Everyone but themselves that is. Off to the Hamptons for them.
“....a new oil and gas boom in the region.”
.
Oh no, not again!
Aren’t we supposed to run out of hydrocarbons and have to depend on solar and wind energy? Heaven help us.
I hear on local news that up in Traverse City MI a number of wells are being drilled looking for Nat-Gas.....
Back in the 50’s and 60’s much of the gas was being flared and we were more interested in liquid hydrocarbons.
Illinois has some possible plays in the southern part of our state. We’re desperate for cash and jobs. Will our Dems be pragmatists or liberals on fracking?
It’s too hard to drill in NM.
The BLM owns everything.
Liberal and you will be like NY is to PA, So does that mean their is some in Indiana?....
Come back, please. We need all the conservatives we can get.
Most are coal bed methane wells that make considerable amounts of fresh water so they have to be pumped to produce the gas.
BLM owns too much but not everything.
There are currently 80 drilling rigs working in New Mexico. Which is about half the number in North Dakota and a tenth of those in Texas.

Unfortunately for the short term, this is a gas play and the US is awash with gas from all of the other shale plays ongoing. It will be a few years before large scale development takes place. But just like in the People’s Republic of New York, it ain’t going anywhere and since it mostly is on federales land, mineral owners aren’t getting hosed like in Bloombergistan.
Thank you for that.
Baker Hughes provides not only breakdown by state but gas vs oil with some historical values.
I had not seen a breakdown by company before like you listed.

THANK YOU again for that link. Lots of good stuff found there.
Is it enough? I recently heard the statistic that we still import 40% of our crude oil, with no end to the imbalance in sight, even with all of the new drilling...
I bet that woke up the engineer in the truck. Sounds like he just got a headache for his troubles. Nice to see snow on the ground in the Panhandle to help ease the drought.
Isn’t a lot of that area Navajo reservation?
