Scott to FAU: Explain this Jesus-stomping incident to me, please
Hotair ^

I missed this incident of Academia Gone Wild when it happened, as I was in Rome covering the papal conclave, but it has all the hallmarks of cluelessness and faux “tolerance” that we’ve come to expect from higher education. It started with a professor of intercultural communications (no, seriously) at state-run Florida Atlantic University requiring students to write the name Jesus in large block letters on a piece of paper, and then stomp on it. One student — one? — refused to comply and told the professor that he would file a complaint over the assignment, which offended his religious beliefs. The school PROMPTLY PUNISHED THE STUDENT, who might still have been suspended had the case not attracted a large amount of media and legal attention, and hopefully a large number of jaws hitting the pavement.

Now Governor Rick Scott wants an explanation of this incident, and a very detailed plan on how FAU would never let it happen again:

Florida Atlantic University has apologized for a controversial classroom lesson that led critics to accuse the school of religious intolerance. But that didn’t stop Gov. Rick Scott for stepping into the fray on Tuesday.

Prayers for great news on your teaching position! I think back to when I was just a little kid and in Catholic school. We were told that our faith would be tested many times over our lives. To be honest, I figured we as Christians would be “tested” by greed, sin, lust etc... not to the extent that we are coerced to deny Christ openly and publicly.

How about the FL state legislature zeroes out the state’s contributions to FAU? When the money stops, the educators see the light.

I do not have the position yet, please keep me in your prayers. That’s why I said “the Lord willing”. But my interview went better than any I have ever had, and I left not only feeling that I “had” the job but looking forward to working in such an environment.

a new name for its sports teams - “The Jesus Stompers”.

LOL! That's anti-Semitic!

Yes, the uni is back-pedaling; but the student should continue to sue for harassment, religious discrimination, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

I missed out on cum laude in grad school for challenging a tenet of feminism. Ended up with 9 A's and 1 A minus, giving me a 3.95. The teacher told me she gave me the minus because she was displeased that I challenged a male 6 foot 4, 300-lb student to a fistfight in class (I am a 5 ft woman) to illustrate the point that SOME instances of male protectionism towards women are reasonable.

Here's an idea - let's spread the word the ‘teacher’ at FAU also had the kids stomp on a picture of Mohammad... AND a page out of the Koran.... AND the Administration of the college was in on it.

Could be a learning experience...

We could be their sensitivity trainers...

i challenged my grade at barry university. it is unheard of to have your grade changed but i succeeded. my test scores averaged in the high 90s. it was my final paper that he graded low. i asked barry to request all final papers and let them compare mine to the rest of the students. the ah hem professor didnt want to explain my low grade so he finally changed it back to an A.
same instructor said bombing dresden germany was worse than vietnam because germany had the “arts”.

Great job! Wish I had done that my senior year when one of my professors got me drunk and then asked me to work for him after graduation and I said no, so he gave me a C. That was the first and last time I drank hard alcohol. Kept me from High Honors. Back then it was all a woman could do to go to college. That particular guy used to regularly tell our class, "All you women are just going to get married and stay home anyway." Today he'd be strung up for a remark like that -- not that he wasn't 85% truthful back then.

vNebuchadnezzar had them thrown into a blazing furnace. FAU just expells them.

In the context of the “lesson”....I am having a really hard time identifying what one could possibly learn from stomping on the word Jesus ?

The problem here is that it’s the symbolism of it. And as always with libtards it’s about symbolism, not the substance. To stomp on word “Jesus”, what exactly are you driving at professor ? What exactly is to be learned/revealed to the person doing the stomping.

What exactly is the symbolism here professor?

I would have not problem with the actual act of stomping on a piece of paper with the name Jesus printed on it. I think the objection of the student is what is the purpose, what it the democRAT party LEADER intending to impart to the student?
