Dog pack suspected in death of 14-year-old U.K. girl Jade Anderson

The body of 14-year-old Jade Anderson was found near a friend's house Tuesday in the Great Manchester area of the U.K., covered in wounds consistent with a dog attack.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, Reuters reports.

Officials have said the teenager was visiting the house in Chaucer Grove, Atherton, near Wigan, and was alone with a pack of dogs, believed to include two bull mastiffs and two Staffordshire bull terriers, reports CBS News partner Sky News in the U.K.

Four animals were shot dead by police and a fifth was contained.

A neighbor, Joshua Thomas, told Reuters he believes she was attacked for the food she was carrying, saying: "She's run to the shop to get a pie, and when she's come back, she's come in with pie and the dogs went for it."

There had been no recent complaints about aggressive dogs in the area, according to Sky News.

However, after the attack, officers said they were confronted by dogs they described as "aggressive" and "out of control."

Norman Bradbury, a local councillor, told Sky News the whole community was in shock.

He said: "We need to establish what occurred with this horrible incident and how it an be avoided in future but we have to wait for the police to investigate what happened, how Jade died and the circumstances."

And people say feral cats are a problem. Never heard of a cat pack attacking a child.

Could be, they're running the Grand National in about 10 days.

I’ll apologize first, but-am I the only one thinking of Little Red Riding Hood?

I live in a rather isolated rural area, where irresponsible people dump inwanted pets often. The dogs that escape he the resident mountain lion and wild hogs sometimes go feral and form packs.

Indeed - dog packs are a very good reason for high-cap magazines.

If your house cat was the size of a cougar, it would attack a child.

Cats lack the size, not the motivation or means, to be a serious threat to you.

I admittedly am a ‘cat person’.
BUT
I do get a little ‘anxious’ if I am taking a daylight nap or maybe sleep a little longer in the morning than usual when I waken to a cat licking my arm and his brother by another mother (and father) sitting at the foot of the bed with an excited look in his eye.

I get the feeling the licking is ‘tenderizing’ me just in case I don’t make their ‘chow call’,— I will be their chow.

I tolerate cats on a case by case basis.

I know enough to know that the cat which trips you on the stairs isn’t playing a game.

It’s attempting to bring you down.

Indeed - dog packs are a very good reason for high-cap magazines.

A good point. Three years ago, a madman living 50 yds from my house attacked an older couple and their son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter on Easter -- long-running feud that the crazy bastard had perpetrated. Armed with a shotgun and handgun, he killed the couple. Husband had retrieved a .38 handgun, but no match for the shotgun. Other family members barely escaped. When two sheriff deputies arrived and the nut raised his shotgun at them, they both pumped a total of 20+ rounds into him in about 3 seconds...unloaded their magazines entirely and dropped the mental case.

Now, if that's good enough for law enforcement for one wild animal, it's good enough for any law-abiding citizen against multiple animals, two-legged or four-legged varieties!

Addendum: The nutbag was arrested and charged for attacking the wife and son some years earlier with a knife. The D.A. dropped the charges, calling the incident "mutual combat." At the time, the husband's brother told the D.A. that he had signed his brother's death warrant. Boy was that true. It's not the firearm, it's the criminal or the insane person wielding it that *must* be removed for an ordered, civil society to exist.

When the economy collapses,
folks “down the street” that are on pycho maintenance drugs
will no longer have those drugs...

Joe, who appears to be normal if a little “eccentric”, suddenly shows up on your doorstep in a tutu with a shotgun.
