Marriage Decline: The disintegration of the nuclear family — particularly in the African-American community — and the rise in fatherless homes have greater societal implications than gay marriage, yet few pay attention.

The debate over gay marriage has taken center stage with two cases, one involving California's Proposition 8 which bans it, and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which bars federal agencies recognizing the validity of same-sex marriages in the states where they are legal, now before the U.S. Supreme Court.

We have argued that the civil purpose of marriage is not and never has been to reaffirm the love of two people for one another.

Nor is marriage primarily a business arrangement.

This country and healthy societies around the world and throughout history have given marriage between a man and a woman special legal protection because of the recognition that it is the one institution that ensures the society's stable future through the orderly procreation and upbringing of children.

In this context, we find the decline in marriage and the rise in illegitimacy, prime factors in crime, poverty and societal decay, being virtually ignored as the Supreme Court looks at the penumbras and emanations from the Constitution to decide whether Adam and Steve can legally tie the knot.

We should be more concerned about that than about gay rights and free contraceptives. As traditional marriage breaks down, so does society.

We have certainly come a long way from "The Cosby Show." In 1965, Daniel Patrick Moynihan wrote "The Negro Family: A Case for National Action."

At the time, 25% of black children were born out of wedlock, a number Moynihan called alarming. Today, 72% of black children are now born out of wedlock. In fact, 36% of white children are born out of wedlock.

The push to get rid of marriage came from the same people now pushing "gay marriage".

Their goal has always been the same, to get rid of marriage so that the family would die. It worked in the poor community where they could bribe people not to marry but did not succeed as well in the more well off who were less susceptible to their pressure.

Now they are trying a new way.

Instead of no one getting married they want everyone to be "married".

Once again their aim is to break apart the family.

I forget who it was that said "If everyone is "special" then nobody is special."

They were right.

If marriage is not considered a special legal relationship meant to create a family but is akin to a handshake then it is no longer marriage.

No marriage = no family.

No family = no civilization.

I know that some here think that is a good thing.

You hear it from the guys and gals bragging about how they "won't be tied down". And that it is too much work. And of course that no one is perfect enough for them.

And bit by bit they continue to chip away at the foundation of that they claim to want to keep.

It is sad really.

....progressives have attacked marriage on several fronts: easy divorce, encouraging promiscuity, and saying that adultery is no big deal, gaining control over the schools, promoting pornography and obscenity. The goal is and has been the destruction of the traditional American family and to destroy churches as meaningful institutions in the U.S.

After they destroy traditional marriage - what will they go after next? Seriously. Liberal elites only seem happy when they're trying to destroy us. No 'win' is ever enough for them. It's the process of hurting us that they get off on...

When Peyton Place came out, followed by a host of other "daytime dramas" we used to call soap operas, my mother commented that it was an attack on the family.

Of course, people said she was going overboard with that, but let's look: The soap opera 'normalized' infidelity, making it seem more common than it was. Once that was done, the conventional wisdom that infidelity was rampant led to an "everyone is doing it" mentality, which led to "why not me"?

Of course, there were probably far more holdouts who did not engage in affairs than the image of society that was presented, but with the advent of The Pill and no-fault divorce, the road was paved for the demise of the institution of marriage in the US.

Breaking down the family would leave the vacuum the State would fill.

Continuing into the sixties and seventies, the 'hippie' movement and "free love" only continued the erosion of the social fabric (and the spread of venereal disease), using sex as a lure to get people to engage in the further attack on other social institutions, capitalizing on the raging hormones of youth and a natural tendency of the age group to rebel against authority.

None of this is accidental, IMHO, nor has the similar gambit with homosexuals been either accidental nor completely spontaneous.

From the 45 Communist Goals of 1963:

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch."

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."

All work together hand-in glove to achieve the same ends: More State Control.

But wait!, There's more...

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

Well, most of those goals have been achieved. They are working on one of the final ones, and may yet succeed:

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

Call it what you will, Global Communism, Global Socialism, The New World Order, or just plain Anti-American, but the threat is real, and has been growing for well over 50 years.

On June 17, 1963 the U.S. Supreme Court concluded that any Bible reciting or prayer, in public schools, was deemed unconstitutional--which flies in the face of the 1st Amendment clause "...nor prohibit the free exercise thereof."

It has been down hill from there, with SCOTUS sanctioned abuses of virtually every Amendment in the Bill of Rights since.
