Law enforcement officials pushed back hundreds of people who were crowding around a large pile of merchandise outside an Augusta grocery store Tuesday afternoon.

But the goods sitting in the parking lot of the Laney Supermarket didn't make into anyone's hands.

Your story about “The pharmacist” reminds us all that some good people still care in this world.

Don’t condem them all as low info voters. It wasn’t that many years ago that our grocerty store would set out allets and tables with past “sell by” dated foods, breads and produce for anyone to take for free. It beats throwing it out. Everyone would come by and pick up something. Eventually, the laws got so strict that they had to trash stuff but if you’d tell them you wanted old produce for your livestock, they’d give it to you in a clean box or sack. Again, better than throwing it out but can’t even do that now days. They eventually took their bread to the senior center and the center would set the grocery carts out on the curb so people could take it for free but, of course, they can’t do that now either. Tell me why in years past day old bread was so bad that laws had to regulated its disposal but now days we get week old hard nasty bread delivered to the grocery shelves for sale? Makes no sense. Why is it just because the store didn’t sell out of all the carrots and potatoes before the new shipment arrived that those from last week have to be trashed when they’re perfectly fine? Again, makes no sense. There used to be what we called a bent can store that would sell dented canned goods or those with no labels or some such. The food was fine but noooo, can’t sell those these days. This has nothing to do with “low info voters” at all.

I could have kissed the pharmacist for staying there to give me that medicine. I was about 5 pm and Ike was going to get there by 10 pm. Every store was closing so their people could get home.

I knew if I couldn't get that antibiotic, I would have to go to the emergency room to get it and figured the emergency room was full of people.

What I didn't know, was, as soon as power went off, the hospital generator wouldn't work and critical patients had to be taken to San Antonio, 5 hours away. The non-critical patients were left in hot hospital rooms with no light. There was no one to fix the generator as everyone was home dealing with their own problems.

I determined when power goes off, don't expect any service you count on to work. You are on your own.

No call to the Salvation army or the local food pantry before the eviction?

don’t ask others to bail you out

LOL! What do you think is going to happen to the U.S.?

You seem extremely confused.

When govenrment is out of control and spends like a drunken lottery winner, it needs to go broke and collapse. It might come as a shock to you, but your own govenrment, you know the feds, they have no money to bail out CA. In CA, those who understand what is happening, understand this and welcome the collapse.

Apparently you didn't get the memo but your own government is broke, and nearly dead on the floor, as it prints money for temporary life support. You seem confused to the point where you think the feds can just bail everyone out...This is what has caused your own governments eventual inevitable collapse...Anyone home...Hello??

Your confusion is probably why you're headed to Georgia. Listen, when the extreme heat and uninhabitable nasty humidity steam over your sun glasses, you'll still be able see the smoke from the printing press in D.C, all the way from Georgia.

Based on your own comments, it really confirms that some people out here like you for instance, just don't quite gets what's happening and what is going to happen.

Wow...I should have expected that type of comment in response to #45.

When ya take the midnight train to Georgia, stick your head a bit deeper in the sand when ya get there. It'll help ya stay ignorant.

Cheers!

Lawsuits. Many grocery stores now have sealed dumptsers with electric crushers inside to destroy and compact everything inside. Dented cans may sometimes have pinholes in the creases which can allow air molecules to spoil meat/grow mold. Yes, I remember the day old bread/donut days and the dented can displays.

They even crush the boxes so you have to go out and buy a new box. If the EPA really wanted to do some good, they’d start at the re-use point.

“so cowardice triumphs over charity ?”

Amazing, isn’t it. But true. I used to volunteer at the local food bank. Many supermarkets donated food. But not Safeway. Their day-old produce went directly into the dumpster, apparently because they were afraid of getting sued by recipients. They did donate bakery bread, however. I have no idea what the difference might be.

I do not volunteer any more, as I was totally disgusted with the rude behavior and outright thievery of our local immigrant population. Old people from Russia, btw. My friend who works at drug court believes one of those rude foodline Russians is a Russian mafia don.

It's like I didn't even need to watch the video. Just give me a certain headline these days and I will tell you the whole story with unerring accuracy.

Ain't it the truth. Including the parts which the media leaves out, except by code.
