Wal-Mart Stores Inc is considering a radical plan to have store customers deliver packages to online buyers, a new twist on speedier delivery services that the company hopes will enable it to better compete with Amazon.com Inc.

Online packages delivered by customers may never reach their destination, either through theft or fraud, the analyst said.

Such a crowd-sourced delivery service may not be as reliable as FedEx or United Parcel Service

They paid good money to a professional analyst, to tell them what anyone with common sense could have told them for free.

I dunno- Could be a neat idea...

You sign up, show your ID, if there are any packages to go you get paid a flat fee or something...

I would see it as a good way for kids to make a few extra buck- call ahead, see if there are any deliveries to go out, show up and make a few until you made some money

Worth a try, at least. I mean you would not hand out packages to people you haven’t identified and they would be paid

They should consider trying to keep their shelves stocked. The last time I went to Wal-Mart they didn’t have several of the things I wanted.

For example we have twins in diapers and we love the Parents Choice Store brand diapers and wipes for their price and their quality. They didn’t have either in stock. They also seemed to have several shelves with large empty sections. Not good.

Yikes!

Sounds like a great way to give thieves, murderers, and rapists an opportunity to check out potential victims.

Customers delivering packages to online buyers. What could possibly go wrong there?

I sense major theft in the foreseeable future.

Just a hunch.

It just might work. People really are more honest than we give them credit for. Interesting idea.

Funny thing, I keep seeing that Walmart is not stocking their shelves or seem to be out of many things. I have not seen it here (Southern AZ) Well, except ammunition.

One thing our local store has instituted is have a goon at the door to inspect packages. NOT mine. In the past when they asked to see my receipt, I just told them, “No”. Now they have a sign up informing patrons that it is a new “policy”
Well again, NOT mine. If I pay for it, screw that clown at the door. But since I am not going to make a scene, this Wal-martian is now gonna become a K-martian.

Stupid idea. Where will the liability be if one of the delivery people assaults the recipient?

Perfect opportunity for a band of theives to collect names and addresses of people with big ticket items, and sell them to criminals, who pay them a visit.

Hard to trace back to the original delivery person.

Really dumb idea, given the reality of Walmart shoppers.

K-martian.

If yours is anything like ours, you certainly won't have to worry about crowding or lines. It's truly a zombie store, has been this way for years, can't hardly believe it stays in business.

I read an article written by that group trying to organize at Walmart and they claim there’s not enough people to stock the shelves because they don’t have a union. What they don’t recognize is that Walmarts pay wages determined by the labor market in that particular area.

Legal liability, not STRAIGHTFORWARD dishonesty, will kill this idea.

WM customer gets in car accident deliverying package.

Liability waivers are worthless, especially against a company like Walmart.

If i was in Walmart and they had a list of packages needing to be delivered and I saw something near my house, I would sure take it to make a quick $10 or something...

Its an interesting new idea- thats what I like most about it

If could be a MAJOR fail, I know that- but maybe you have to leave your ID and/credit card (you get charged if it is not delivered) or something

I was at walmart last night and the shelves were not only stocked- but the aisles were nearly completely blocked by the arrival of new stock (I arrived after 10PM) that they were putting onto the shelves

do we have to pay extra to have our Coors delivered by one of Walmart’s famous 500 pound customer ladies?

Oh yeah, that’s what I want, a total stranger coming to my house to hand deliver something I ordered online. They expect background checks when you purchase weapons. How about background checks on the people who will be doing the delivering?
