A contingent of liberal Democrats in Congress is proposing a new federal gun control idea: mandatory liability insurance for gun owners.
When New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney introduced the legislation last month with eight other Democrats, she boasted that it is “the first bill to require liability insurance of gun buyers nationwide.”

The "usual suspects". And 90% of legal gun owners probably have insurance anyway, through their homeowner's or renter's insurance. While closer to 0% of the illegal gun owners -- and Democrat core constituencies -- likely have insurance.

That has no real effect on our military when they are in action overseas, but would certainly ramp down efforts by various states to limit gun rights. I am sure that if the latest legislation in New York applied to even just the police and every federal employee in the state that there is no way the New York legislature would have passed the bill.
This insurance requirement is obviously ridiculous, and would of course be particularly onerous for police officers since they are much more likely to face liability than others.
