Reuters) - The 193-nation U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly approved on Tuesday the first-ever treaty on global arms trade that seeks to regulate the $70 billion international business in conventional arms ranging from light weapons to battle tanks and warships.
There were 154 votes in favor, 3 against and 23 abstentions.
Iran, Syria and North Korea last week prevented a treaty-drafting conference at U.N. headquarters from reaching the required consensus to adopt the treaty.
The Iranian, Syrian and North Korean delegations cast the sole votes against the treaty on Tuesday.
Iran, which is under a U.N. arms embargo over its nuclear program, is eager to ensure its arms imports and exports are not curtailed, diplomats said.
The treaty will be open for signature on June 3 and will enter into force 90 days after the 50th signatory ratifies it.
The United States, the world's No. 1 arms exporter, voted in favor of the treaty despite fierce opposition from the National Rifle Association, a powerful U.S. pro-gun lobbying group.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement that the U.N. adopted "a strong, effective and implementable Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) that can strengthen global security while protecting the sovereign right of states to conduct legitimate arms trade."
"Nothing in this treaty could ever infringe on the rights of American citizens under our domestic law or the Constitution, including the Second Amendment," he added, referring to the U.S. constitutional amendment that guarantees the right to bear arms.
The NRA opposes the treaty and has vowed to fight to prevent its ratification by the U.S. Senate when it reaches Washington. The NRA says the treaty will undermine domestic gun rights, a view the U.S. government has strongly rejected.
NRA FAILURE?

Does this give Obama some gun control and someone to blame it on ?
Does the treaty prevent Eric Holder from sending guns to Mexican drug lords???
It gives Obama nothing, considering it must still be ratified by 67 senators before it becomes anything other than a piece of paper in the United States...and even according to Harry Reid, their aren't even 40 senators who support Obama's current gun control plans.
No, but it encourages them to frame law-abiding gun owners for their own crimes.
And then there's this: even if it passes they can kiss my a$$.
Let’s see how that ratification by two thirds of the States, goes.....LOL!

Hey, ketchup boy....no one believes you....
Step by step, one step closer to TOTAL Gun Control. Do not stop the fight for our 2nd Amendment rights, Remember “Obamacare” (it will not pass!!!) But it did pass, and without our voice, this may also pass into law. Then what will we do? (give up our Guns? fight to keep our Guns?)I say it is better to fight NOW then later after the fact. What say you?
I’m sure the UN will be enforcing this throughout Africa and Asia.
Or is it just another scam to extort money from the USA?
The key areas of infringement appear to be the potential to reduce access to surplus firearms and ammunition, such as imports from Russia. Many enthusiasts enjoy inexpensive arms, such as the Mosin-Nagant rifle and appreciate access to inexpensive ammo, like 7.62x54. Are there other, practical or meaningful, impacts that are possible?
Remember, these are the same people who say that assault weapon bans, magazine limits and registration schemes don’t infringe on the 2nd Amendment, either!

That will affect imports and exports. Bills like the following are even more dangerous, along with domestic-violence-related and data collection bills (re. mental health, etc). Outlawing subgroups and grandfathering the current crop of firearms owners will be the way to eventually outlawing the Second Amendment altogether for everyone (divide and conquer voters).

There are a lot of great Quotes that are used to Remind us of our freedoms and GOD given rights. I like this one:
“For those who are in support of taking the guns, you need to ask yourself a very important question, and I am not just talking about the politicians, because if you support them, you have chosen your side.
Are you willing to die to take my guns?”
― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
I hope they are not because if they come for mine there will be hell to pay. I am not registering anything, I am not turning in anything, I am not getting any permits. In other words, call me a felon. I feel sorry for the minions these crazed politicians send out to enforce these laws and hope the public sees them as the messenger, in other words, aim farther up the chain of command.
And good old Ben;
