MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) -- Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford on Tuesday cleared another hurdle in his bid for a political comeback, defeating a former county council member to win the GOP nomination for a vacant U.S. House seat.
With 96 percent of precincts reporting, Sanford had about 57 percent of the vote to 43 percent for Curtis Bostic, a former Charleston County Council member. The candidates were vying Tuesday in a GOP runoff in the 1st Congressional District, which covers the south coast.
Sanford will face Elizabeth Colbert Busch and Green Party candidate Eugene Platt in a May special election. She is the sister of political satirist Stephen Colbert.
The former three-term congressman and two-term governor saw his political career sidelined four years ago when he disappeared from the state only to return and confess to an extramarital affair with an Argentine woman to whom he is now engaged.

I don't understand why a primary is run this way. Very stupid, in my opinion.
Colbert will win going away.
It’s really a shame. We are steadily slipping back to the 1948-1994 era — when Democrats were able to dominate Congress despite frequent national unpopularity, because the Republican bench was so damn poor.
I don’t mean to be obtuse but isn’t this all for the same senate seat?
This is for a House seat, not a Senate seat.
Yeah. I’m a Sanford supporter, now we have to beat Colbert. Congratulations Mark!
Thank you for clearing up my misunderstanding.
Actually it’s his fiancé.
Considering that you aren’t even living here means you don’t have to. Obviously we here that know and appreciate our former Governor decided to send him to D.C.
Waiting for the inevitable and disgusting “I’d hit that.” “Not guilty”—I am so upset about this. I think I’ll send some money to Colbert.
Could be, she was sure with him tonight for the victory celebration. Like you say, disgusting. (Click on the pics for sources)

My heart aches for the Sanford boys. Painful pic: https://twitter.com/DianneG/status/319256059946618880
“Fiancé” must be Argentine for whore.
Does he let you share his puta?
I won’t argue that some Dems didn’t crossover and vote for Sanford. Unfortunately, the usual blame-game of crossover Dems ruining our primaries just isn’t true in this case. I spoke with quite a few Bible-Believing Christians, RINOs, Greatest Generation aged-folks and plenty of others who thought Sanford was OK to vote for. Tons of excuses and justifications from them and a lot of these folks called for Sanford’s head back in 2009 when everything broke wide open.
I think Colbert-Busch has a good chance of beating Sanford in May.
I live he and he became a vile and dirty Clinton type. snippy is not representative. Maybe Sanford share his little black book— anyway, this tea parties is going to try to help that twit Colbert get the seat. Then maybe we can restore #1 to sanity in 2014. It’s not even a whole two years.
This Just In: Encouraged by Sanford’s Win....John Edwards has announced he too plans a political comeback.
Yeah. Im a Sanford supporter, now we have to beat Colbert. Congratulations Mark!

I’m not a South Carolinian, so couldn’t vote. But, once he came in 2nd in the primary, I contributed to Bostic’s campaign. So I’m somewhat disappointed—I was worried about Sanford’s electability in what should be a solidly Republican district. But the good news is that Sanford is a constitutional conservative.
Now that he’s won the run-off it’s time for me to throw the meager financial support I can provide behind Sanford. I see that, in addition to his Democrat opponent, Sanford also faces a Green Party candidate and that is GOOD NEWS since it will help split the liberal vote.
Draining liberal & low-information votes from the Democrat to the Green candidate may be needed to compensate for the conservative votes that Sanford will lose because of his affair & divorce. Hell, in addition to the small contribution I’ll be able to afford to give Sanford, maybe I’ll donate a little to the Green candidate also. It’s time to do some internet searching.
Well, it looks like we deserve to lose his seat and Lindsey Graham’s seat.

SC is shining up that silver platter to hand the seat to the democrats on.
