Secrets of the Cyprus Heist
WND ^ | 04.03.13 | Franklin Raff

I have served as a flag-man among the pirates of offshore banking... (snip)

...why the plunder of Cyprus is probably one of the most brilliant acts of wholesale theft the world has ever known, why the stolen treasure may be thousands of times greater than has been suggested, and why the names of the victims, and the full value of the loot, will remain a mystery forever... (snip)

Though it may be easy to think of offshore depositors as foreign outlaws, pirates or simply “Russians,” this is not nearly the case. Cyprus was a leader – in some circles and for some applications, the leader – in quiet storage, management and structuring of exceptionally large sums for private individuals and corporations all over the world. Cypriots were fast learners in the fields of global asset protection and “tax optimization.” (I do cringe to say these words.) Cyprus’ 2004 entrance into the EU gave financial operations a deeper veneer of legitimacy and security. All of this meant almost a decade of rapidly expanding business. This was surely from Europeans and Russians wary of unpredictable tax laws and indiscriminate, extralegal confiscations, but also from entities in North America and elsewhere.... (snip)

What we know is that it is government theft of a kind not seen since wartime Germany or revolutionary Russia... (snip)

Expect major instability and enduring shock waves. The implications of the heist, ominously called “precedent setting” by its own architects, are staggering... (snip)

The best way to pull off a heist is to make it so nobody blows the whistle or calls the authorities. Better yet is to arrange things so the authorities are in on the job. Best of all, of course, is when the authorities do the job.

And that is exactly what has happened in Cyprus.

In this situation, the prosecution of the thieves may be in the “Italian Judiciary System.” The Russian mob has been known to be upset when someone crosses them. Putin has already expressed his anger.

In a world where you can get killed for your sneakers... I am curious why those responsible for this are not dropping dead left and right from ... accidents.

I can see a movie about this starring George Clooney.

Except there are no rooms full of laser beams, high speed drills and fast cars.

Visuals, not so much; but amount of money involved: yes!

The MSM has been pushing hard on the “it’s all Russian money” thing. This is a very different perspective.

the plunder of Cyprus is probably one of the most brilliant acts of wholesale theft the world has ever known, why the stolen treasure may be thousands of times greater than has been suggested, and why the names of the victims, and the full value of the loot, will remain a mystery forever.

The Cyprus heist, as it was rightly described by of all people, Vladimir Putin, does have a New World precedent. After Bush succeeded in ousting Noriega from Panama and "sequestering" him, the "government" of that pestilential hole, if one can actually call a "government" that rag-tag and bobtail assortment of sleazeoids, who if in a movie would all be played by a very tanned Peter Lorre, simply emptied the bank accounts of those whom our DEA identified as drug lords. They took it all. Alles, tutto, bye-bye. Of course, the DEA neglected to mention some drug lords, whose funds mysteriously resurfaced in Jersey, Lichtenstein, The Isle of Man, and Bermuda.

Same deal in Cyprus. The many millions in doubtless-sordid baksheesh held in the accounts of those in the "government," were all mysteriously gotten out of Dodge before TSHTF. But then this Cyprus place must be one murky spot. E.G., The Turks blithely "sell" property in their sector, not belonging to them, to bargain-hunting Europeans.

But I do wonder if I am drawing the right conclusion from the article you posted. Is the author really saying "Brilliant heist, they'll never catch the perps ... and in fact we'll never know who the victims are?" I certainly hope not. If true, this precedent will prove all to tempting to a certain Hawaiian in DC. Frankly, the size of Cyprus' original problem seemed more like the amount contained in ONE oligarchical account. What pray tell will the Cypriots do with the rest? Did they really have to wipe out every dentist's retirement fund, all the money saved by the Dry Cleaner on the Corner, the Grocer?

One other thing in the bag of my wet brain (it's all salt water I assure you): WTF happens to the many merchant vessels all over the world who are flying the flag of Cyprus? Their operating funds, their ownership status, their bunkering fees, their Panama Canal transit fees, crew salaries ... if all their money is stolen, how do they continue? Who picks up the pieces?

In regard to the Russians, our MSM is trying to paint Putin in the worst possible light because of Syria. Me, I think Pope Francis ought to name him a "Defender of the Faith," as the "freedom fighters," "democracy-loving insurgents," and "rebels," are all Muslim fanatics whose first business after securing an area is to massacre the Christians living in it.

BTW .... How refreshing to read an article published in WND that is factual and dead straight. None of that breathless WND Nancy-Drew-Hardy-Boys prose. Wonder if WND will expand it and get the author to show and tell a bit more.
Great find, great post!

Sheath your rapier, sir. What happened to the Cypriots is but a hint of what is coming to America under democrip leadership, and will arrive before my grandaughter reaches 21 (she’s sixteen). The agenda is a global governance with a global currency control held by the same demon families who started the ‘federal reserve’. Rothchilds, Rockafellers, etc. they just have more money than they could ever spend and they indulge in all manner of deviant behaviors at will —protected by the court systems controlled by puppet governemtns, so they need a better fix: P O W E R, ultimate world control power. Your wit is strong, but the evil sauntering across the globe now is nothing to be laughed at. It is deadly serious.
