(Newser) – When Google's controversial privacy policy went live, Tom Henderson "divorced" the company. A year later, he writes in ITworld, things are going just fine. "I'm in a much happier place. It can be done." Here's how he did it:
While using these alternate services, he always pays careful attention to terms of service and privacy policies, blocking scripts, and erasing cookies as he goes. "Google and SEO and tracking have soiled the web in unbelievable ways," Henderson writes. Online data gathering has become "pervasive," and "Terms of Service privacy invasion and data sharing are now so wide-spread and out-in-the-open." The only way to change that is to starve companies like Google of fuel, aka our personal information. Click for Henderson's full column.
Google was the home page for all my devices. I changed them all to either Good Search or bing yesterday.

“Google was the home page for all my devices. I changed them all to either Good Search or bing yesterday.”
As did I.
And I have also printed the list of all those companies devoting their time to political issues instead of striving to give the customers good product at good value...and I no longer shop there.
Surprisingly, I really don’t feel the diff - Google et al are not really needed. Never were.
I upgraded my Adobe Acrobat when it prompted. The very first effing thing it did was install that Commie Google Chrome shit. It delinked any functionality from Outlook Web links and some other nuisance problems.
I patched it from MS, and I have vowed to read EVERY upgrade narrative I see from now on.
During the removal process, it came up with a Google screen asking why I was doing this. I replied “You are a bunch of Commie f@cking bastards and I hope you die.”
Well right there, Tom Henderson proves himself an idiot, and I can ignore his advice.
Bingo.
If you’re concerned about privacy issues so much that you “divorce” Google, yet you Facebook - then you definitely have issues.
I used to have a scanner that picked up remote and cell phones years ago. Besides the neighborhood drug dealer whose calls always went something like, “are you holding?” Most people’s lives are pretty boring when you listen in. Even the sheriff freqs were boring then again I didn’t live in South Central.
They could read my email and it would bore them to tears.

Yes, there’s lots of good coffee in the world. No more Starbucks or McDonalds! I wish I had known Best Buy was on the bad list before I purchased my last laptop.
I love Good Search—it’s been the only searcher I’ve used for several years now. It’s never let me down, and Second Amendment Sisters has gotten several nice checks from them.
(If you list your “charity” when you first sign up with them, they throw a few pennies your way every time you use the engine. We gotten several checks from them, not big, but every little bit helps in an organization like SAS. I do remember that one check was a bit over $100, though.)
What is the general Free Republic poster’s opinion on Bing?
I use Microsoft Bing as a my search engine. Maybe the lesser of two evils...
Thanks. I’ve been exploring ways to get rid of google with a minimum of pain. Already using Bing, but want an email server that respects privacy. Not really interested in always broadcasting my political persuasion to any stranger or vendor, so not interested in reagan.com. But I would suggest to this person that he think twice about keeping Amazon. In my mind, they are in cahoots with google. I’ve had an unpleasant run in with them being careless with my privacy when they suspected I was not liberal. Beware.
Best search engine I’ve found. No tracking, no cookies, searches all the big engines, but keeps you completely out of their systems.
