Rutgers University basketball coach Mike Rice was fired today for hitting, kicking and verbally abusing his players during practices a decision that has met with widespread praise from many commentators in the news media, who found his actions abhorrent.
Not so Fox News co-host Eric Bolling, who said the decision to fire Rice was evidence that American culture was in decline because of the "wussification of American men."
Were in the midst of political correctness crushing our ability to teach kinds, to discipline kids, to disagree with people or one another or kids, Bolling said on today's edition of "The Five." Our culture is in decline, and this is an example of our culture in free fall and Im saying this because he got fired, not because of what he did.
Elsewhere in the world of sport, and not totally unrelated, the English soccer club Sunderland is defending its decision to hire Paolo Di Canio, an Italian coach who repeatedly made fascist salutes throughout his playing career the sort of thing that got a Greek player suspended just two weeks ago.
Yeah, Knight won.
He never would have been fired had he not used the word “Faggot” thats what got the media so pissed..God forbid you use that term to describe a homo
He didn't do himself any favors by telling women if rape in inevitable, enjoy it or by throwing chairs on courts after bad calls.
And, I don't think Neil Reed has very pleasant memories of Knight.
He was initially suspended for ‘anger management’ type issues. THEN they came up with the video that showed him using anti-gay slurs. THAT is what caused the firing.
True. Knight may well have been as bad as Rice but never got caught on video assaulting players.
Knight had just as many issues as Rice, he just never caught abusing players like Rice did.
For example:
On December 7, 1974, Indiana and Kentucky met in the regular season in Bloomington with a 98-74 Indiana win. Near the end of the game, Bob Knight went to the Kentucky bench where the official was standing to complain about a call. Before he left, Knight hit Kentucky coach Joe B. Hall in the back of the head. UK's assistant coach Lynn Nance, a former FBI agent who was about 6 feet 5 inches, had to be restrained by Hall from hitting Knight.
During the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Knight was accused of assaulting a police officer while coaching the US Basketball team before a practice session. He was later convicted in absentia to a six-month jail sentence, but extradition efforts by the Puerto Rican government were not successful.
Once had a coach who turned his college ring around so the stone was on the inside. He’d slap those who disobeyed upside the head - hurt like hell but we responded with acceptable behavior or improved results. Instead of feeling insulted in front of others, we made a joke of it and it bonded us together. If you think the coach was bad, you should have heard the drill instructors back in basic in the 60’s. Today’s “men” are not what they used to be.
Do you think it’s appropriate for a coach to use ANY such slurs to demean players? Would n*gger be okay? K*ke, d*go, sp*ck, wetback? This is a person of authority representing a school. It was wrong, period.
I saw the video. IMHO, it's one thing to kick a little butt and get the team motivated. It's quite another to be consistently physically abusive.
This guy crossed the line, from what I could see.
:)
?????????????????
This is a good thing; 2 white libs just lost their jobs, to be replaced by teleprompters. Until the white libs recognize the effects of pretending that ethnic minorities reading at 2nd grade levels shouldn’t get college seats ahead of qualified Americans of any color, I certainly won’t shed a tear for them.
I live in NJ; these 2 white libs cost a lot more than they were worth (and have no future in the private sector).
Once he used terms for Sodomites it was all over; the tape was a compilation over a long period of time.
I’m a NJ taxpayer; good riddance to this burden on my children’s future earnings.
He’s right. The dirty little secret that no dares to mention is that, for most people, this is a wild over-reaction. If the velvet Mafia doesn’t get a grip this kind of PC hysteria will result in fierce blowback.
His head butt was an accident during a game when he was talking to the players. The video of him grabbing the players neck is fair game.
