Looking for Role Models On and Off the Field
The Aspen Times ^ | April 4, 2013 | Charlie Leonard

Following Tiger Woods' recent win at the Bay Hill Invitational golf tournament last month, Nike released a commercial featuring its star endorser that defiantly stated, “Winning settles everything.”

Company representatives said the ad was intended only to answer questions about the golfer's competitive drive after several years of uneven play. What Nike didn't acknowledge, but almost everyone assumes, is that the ad also was intended to silence anyone still critical of Woods' personal transgressions off the course.

As a sports fan in general, and a lover of the game of golf in particular, I thought the ad was contemptible. Woods and Nike could not be more wrong. Winning does not settle everything — on or off a golf course or any other competitive field of play, for that matter.

But make no mistake — Woods only gets away with this because we let him.

Tiger received a pardon when he played golf with Caliph Baraq in February.

It’s all good now.

(Er, that should read "Everyone", not "Everything". Where's that "edit" function?)

I was sitting with my 7 year old daughter watching the US Open when tie-grr spewed this gem from his potty mouth. (Profanity warning)

I anticipated a big boy apology the next day, but instead he doubled down and suggested that it wouldn’t have been broadcast on the air if he were white.

I will never forgive him. He is worth less than nothing to me.

I too was hoping for the worst for Mr. Eldrick “Tiger” Woods and now that he’s the world’s no. 1 golfer again, I feel terrible...just awful. I cringe at every birdie, every par and pump my fist at the TV whenever he bogies or is forced to take a penalty stroke. That’s a shame, I know but he should still be made to pay through the nose for his brazen naughtiness. And I would feel the same way about anyone like that as I don’t play favorites and even if I liked and played the game, I would not be taking any golf tips from him!/s

I'm not sure what you're saying. It seems you may have left out some punctuation, and provided us with an incomplete sentence. But it appears at first glance that you are accusing me of being a liar. Is that true?
