Senator: NASA to lasso asteroid, bring it closer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A top senator says President Barack Obama and NASA are planning for a robotic spaceship to lasso a small asteroid and park it near the moon. Then astronauts would explore it in 2021.

Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida said the plan would speed up by four years the existing mission to land astronauts on an asteroid by bringing the space rock closer to Earth.

Nelson, who is chairman of the Senate Science and Space Subcommittee, said Friday that Obama is putting $100 million for the accelerated asteroid mission in the 2014 budget that comes out next week. The money would be used to find the right small asteroid.

Didn’t the Russians, just last month, beat us with their retrieving a space rock.
Hopefully, “Olde Turkey Neck” Billy Nelson’s NASA gets it right.

Senator: NASA to lasso asteroid, bring it closer...

If they want to piss away money, why not just pile it up in a parking lot and set a match to it? Rediculous!!!

A big space project might be what we need to get our culture out of its slump. It could move our focus from inward to outward, where it belongs.

It would give young people something to focus on instead of their genitalia. It would redeem our heritage as explorers and developers.

Senator Bill Nelson may be wrong on a lot of things, but he’s not wrong on this.

We can’t put a man in space and land him at the space station.... but we’re gonna park an asteroid close to the moon and put men on that? Give me a break.....

Um.....Off the top of my head: there is no such mission. It would be a complete waste of time and money, and I don’t think we have the technology to make the chances of success higher than 4 or 5 percent.

And....I’d be even more pissed off they’re not spending the money on the one mission every single person at NASA should be working on: WHAT’S UNDER THE FRIGGIN ICE ON EUROPA?!?!?!?

Morons.

We landed on the moon with 1960s technology. We have exponentially greater potential today.

We absolutely must have a strong precense in space. City-killing asteroids can come at any moment. The last known one was in 1908.

The problem today is all of our resources are spent on:

1. Extravagant lifestyles of thieves who are connected to our politicians.

2. Keeping most of the population stupid, lazy and distracted with bread/circuses to figure it out.

3. A vast militarized police force and surveillance state to keep producers/slaves disarmed and serving the thieves.

See... here’s where we’re going to disagree. I’m not concerned about city killing asteroids. We know without a doubt that it’s going to happen, in a big way. It is part of prophecy that will be fulfilled. There is not one thing we can do about it. It will happen in the course of time, according to God’s word. So we should spend our money on something besides trying to protect our planet from asteroids. Really, we should just give the money back to the tax payers and rest in God’s will.

A 100 million dollars to “find” the asteroid?

That means quintillions of dollars and untold decades to get it here.

FUBO!

I believe our destiny is to spread throughout the solar system, the galaxy and beyond. Beyond the bounds of space and time. Our minds have infinite potential.

Within 20 years humans will form a sustainable, reproducing colony on Mars that will grow more prosperous with every year. We have the technology to do so and several colonies are already being planned RIGHT NOW (without tax money). Within 1-2 centuries, we will robotically terraform the entire planet and seed it with life.

I don't believe ANY word written on paper by man is indisputable truth. Even if God truly “spoke” to those men thousands of years ago it is still only words on paper written by men. We should not give up and doom humanity on this planet because of that. That would be a self-fulfiling prophecy.

What does this have to do with Muslim outreach? Are the NASA folks outsourcing the software writing to the Iranians?

Ohhh yeah, that is how it is how "muslim outreach is done by NASA's book and bHo and staff." We all know that is the purpose of why we even have NASA.

A lasso is inhumane.
PETA (People for the Ethical Tretment of Asteroids) will squelch this.

Florida should get a Senator who is not a complete fool onto this committee.
