Someday they’ll need a Columbo to solve “Murder on the 25th Floor”
To: BenLurkin
But with they have Sabbath elevators?

Not for the free spirited. Just for obsessive compulsive types who plan their lives to the second.

God love Columbo. We so need some intelligent people to fight this Leviathan and put a big wrench in this Neo-Marxist movement. The billions these creepy perverted elites have is very daunting-—most people can be bought off or easily bribed and they have total control of all three branches of our government now.

What if you want to go another floor? Not an option with this elevator system, because the designers want you to register everything on your card, so the elevators can run more efficiently. And THAT my friends is where our command-economy government is headed. This is no different than life in the Soviet Union, ask someone who lived there. The only difference is that instead of a stern faced bureaucrat telling you it's not allowed, a computer will simply ignore your request. In a safe and efficient society where our betters know what is best for us, there will be no need for an unscheduled mid-morning walk when you just want some fresh air and a few minutes to get away from the office.

The Marriott in New Orleans has a elevator system which is a forerunner of this. No buttons inside an elevator car, but they are instead on a panel in the waiting area. You push the button for the desired floor and the panel then designates with a letter the car you are to go to. You are then taken directly to your floor.
Pretty efficient system, but with some drawbacks.

I do a lot of historical research...often butting heads.
Occasionally I quip...."I feel like Columbo"...."One more thing".
To: BenLurkin
"Smart elevators". What could possibly go wrong?
Especially considering the constrained intelligence of the folks who will program them.
To: BenLurkin
Gee, what could possible go wrong? Eerily similar to lots of computer software — it works exactly as the designers wanted it to work. But, designers are not users, and no one could get anything done with the software.

Right....That's why there is real heavy traffic and 5 million people in that area every day with non-stop air traffic overhead inbound LAX 24/7.

I.D. card. That's not "smart" at all. It's just a very simple matter that links people.
No bigus dealus.
To: ken in texas
Do they have stairs in case you lose your card?

I’ve used those elevators in the past in Chicago and in Europe. They are terrible. Very confusing to people who have never seen one before. Usually they require human operators on the ground floor telling people how to use the elevator.
