As the Wait for the Gun Bill Continues, More Republicans Are Pressured to Filibuster It(barf alert)

Senate aides say there's been no progress on the Senate's gun-control legislation in the last two weeks, and the bill's chances might have actually worsened during that time. At least eleven Republican senators have promised to filibuster any new gun legislation, and soon others may join them. With Congress in recess and lawmakers back in their home states, a gun-rights group directed its members to pressure senators to join the effort to block new gun control laws, according to The Wall Street Journal. While it sounds like the kind of thing that's right up the NRA's alley, the push was actually organized by Gun Owners of America, a lobbying group that considers the NRA too soft on guns.

Though it's much smaller and less well-funded than the NRA, Gun Owners of America has been gaining influence recently, urging lawmakers to not only block new gun control legislation, but to undo existing laws on background checks. The New York Times reported this week that the group might be partly responsible for Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn — who is seen as key to passing universal background checks — backing away from a potential deal with Democratic senators. (It's believed that Coburn could influence his Republican colleagues to support the legislation, as he's so pro-gun he once remarked, "It's just a good thing I can't pack a gun on the Senate floor.") According to the paper, "The group’s members were encouraged to inundate Mr. Coburn with e-mails and calls and to otherwise make it exceedingly clear to the senator that an enhanced background check law would not be tolerated."

Despite pressure from gun lobbying groups, Coburn hasn't totally given in just yet. The bipartisan agreement on background checks stalled over Coburn's insistence that requiring record-keeping on gun sales is a slippery slope

Coburn is a pretty smart cookie. He may even be working with Paul on this. Keep them talking. The longer we go, the less chance any gun control bill has.

I notice that GOA is getting some deserved credit here. The more the better. If nothing else, it shows how centrist the NRA actually is.

Sorry, must have missed it. Which one are you referring to?

You have many.

Could this maybe be about what the majority of folks think and not be about lobbyists? After all, lobbyists are only as powerful as the backing of their supporters and the public at large - aren’t they?

I'll take whatever good news comes America's way.

In the article, they do not say anything about the tremendous pressure being put on congress critters from the MSM, the President, and the anti-gun billionaires like Soros and Bloomberg.

It seems pretty one sided.

Here are the RINOs we got to keep the pressure on.

In short, the GOP is full of VILE members who'll sell us out in a heartbeat!

Here are the ones that I know about.
What do we do when our side is full of TRAITORS?
I submit the following for proof.

Check out this link, "Senate Republicans Willfully and Knowingly Lie to Their Constituents (vote to fund Obamacare)".

It is the nature of all government to grow, and increase in power. The possibility, even probability, of abuse always exists. Our Nation’s founders were well aware of this and attempted to guard us against it.

At this moment we are faced with a government no longer content to stay within it’s constitutional boundaries. The threat of tyranny becomes more obvious with each day.

Only fools, and aspiring tyrants, would not fear and fight against this.

Three quotes to remember, the difference between night and day.

“They have the guns and therefore we are for peace and for reformation through the ballot. When we have the guns then it will be through the bullet.”

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

“A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device to deny gun ownership to the bourgeoisie.”

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

“The prospect of tyranny may not grab the headlines the way vivid stories of gun crime routinely do. But few saw the Third Reich coming until it was too late. The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed - where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.”

Judge Alex Kozinski

Ah yes... but the power of the people still rule! Once the game is outed, folks will overcome politics... Yes, I agree that the coming out is the problem - politicians are an incipient group and will exploit their own! Sometimes I think that it is useless but sites like this keep me going.

Yea I love GOA!
I haven’t trusted the NRA in well over ten years.

When friends ask which one to support I always say GOA is by far the best.
