Why Are Young Americans Supportive of Obama When His Policies Are So Bad for Them?
Townhall.com ^ | April 7. 2013 | Daniel J. MItchel

Posted on 04/07/2013 6:15:11 AM PDT by Kaslin

Young people voted for Obama in overwhelming numbers, but the question is why?

As I explain in this interview for Blaze TV, they are being hurt by his policies.

It’s not just that youth unemployment is high. Obama’s policies also are hurting those who found jobs. Simply stated, these “lucky” folks are getting below-average pay.

Dan Mitchell Warning that Young People Are Most Hurt by Obamanomics

Some of you may think I’m clutching at straws because I don’t like Obama, but perhaps you’ll believe the man who formerly served as the Chairman of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers.

Here’s some of what Austin Goolsbee wrote several years ago for the New York Times.

…starting at the bottom is a recipe for being underpaid for a long time to come. Graduates’ first jobs have an inordinate impact on their career path and their “future income stream,” as economists refer to a person’s earnings over a lifetime. The importance of that first job for future success also means that graduates remain highly dependent on the random fluctuations of the economy, which can play a crucial role in the quality of jobs available when they get out of school.

Goolsbee cites some research based on the career paths of Stanford MBAs.

Consider the evidence uncovered by Paul Oyer, a Stanford Business School economist… He found that the performance of the stock market in the two years the students were in business school played a major role in whether they took an investment banking job upon graduating and, because such jobs pay extremely well, upon the average salary of the class. That is no surprise. The startling thing about the data was his finding that the relative income differences among classes remained, even as much as 20 years later.

He also reports on what other scholars found for regular college students.

Dr. Oyer’s findings hold for more than just high-end M.B.A. students on Wall Street. They are also true for college students. A recent study, by the economists Philip Oreopoulos, Till Von Wachter and Andrew Heisz…finds that the setback in earnings for college students who graduate in a recession stays with them for the next 10 years. These data confirm that people essentially cannot close the wage gap by working their way up the company hierarchy. While they may work their way up, the people who started above them do, too. They don’t catch up.

Now think about today’s young people. They’re buried in debt, thanks to government programs that have caused a third-party payer crisis. Yet they are having a hard time finding jobs because Obama’s policies are stunting the economy’s performance.

And even if they do find a job, the research suggests they will get paid less. Not just today, but for the foreseeable future.

Yet they gush over Obama. Go figure.

P.S. Goolsbee’s recent columns have been less impressive, perhaps because he feels the need to defend Obama.

P.P.S. I’m not suggesting that young people should have gushed over McCain or Romney. Just that they should view almost all politicians with disdain.

P.P.P.S. I also say in the interview that the government should get out of the housing business – both on the spending side of the budget and the revenue side of the budget. And it goes without saying that I also explain the need to reduce the burden of government spending.

All the kids, of voting age, that I know (friends of son and DIL’s, nieces, nephews, etc.) didn’t vote for Obama. However, there were a couple Ron Paul voters in the mix.

They came from conservative homes, and the parents took time to help them navigate the “misinformation” coming out of the Washington and the MSM. Plus once you get a job, you have a much keener awareness of how government works, (i.e. takes your money) and you become more conservative. All the kids I mentioned have jobs.

Now as to kids in general (whose parents aren’t conservative, or are conservative and didn’t pass on their knowledge to their kids, the quote below and the article listed could be the problem...they can’t figure it out for themselves because the reasoning part of the brain isn’t developed until age 25.)

http://teenbrain.drugfree.org/science/behavior.html
Quote from article:

“The parts of the adolescent brain which develop first are those which control physical coordination, emotion and motivation. However, the part of the brain which controls reasoning and impulses - known as the Prefrontal Cortex - is near the front of the brain and, therefore, develops last. This part of the brain does not fully mature until the age of 25.”

We’ve joked with our kid for years that his brain isn’t fully developed till he’s 25, and the body begins to deteriorate at 27, so all in all, you’ve got 2 good years where everything’s working :)

Because the new generation is obsessed with gayness.
I have to agree with you. That, and they need their birth control paid for by someone else. They are a very sexually minded generation. Focused on themselves and not so much on the grand consequences of their actions or society’s as a whole. The id is thriving in these guys while the superego is being starved to death. Society suffers as a result.

**
I have to agree with this, knowing the young people that I know. They all SEEM fine and rational, until it comes to THIS issue. They are in the tank for homos — and it is the single issue that drives them to the Dems. It’s unbelievable really, that they are willing to sacrifice everything so that these worthless fags can have their way.

If it was up to me, I’d say too damn bad.

TOTAL CULTURE ROT. It is not all the Socialist Government's fault - it is a COMPLETE breakdown of the culture - there is no moral compass. Whatever "FEELS" good has to be good and needs to be attained.

I know I sound like a broken record on this subject but one more time......

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
John Adams quotes (American 2nd US President (1797-1801), 1735-1826)

Well said. I don’t have a working knowledge of the English language that you have, but I do see historical significance in what you say.

Did not Hitler start out by indoctrinating the youth.
There are many frightening aspect os Obama’s reign to Hitlers. Gun grabbing ia another one.

What is happening is that in order to live beyond their means American families are working two jobs. No: I did not say that wrong, American families are working two jobs and still living beyond their means.

As they work two jobs they pawn their kids off on others.
Obama is taking advantage of this to to turn our kids into good little Obamaites. He is even getting them to tell their teachers and doctors if Daddy owns a gun.

Camera’s are everywhere, our privacy has long been gone. Even our Doctors will soon be pimping on us as they file our ecery ache and pain with Obamacare.

Government has already gone too far and it isn’t even started good yet.

Also were “cries” that they “couldn’t live on” 29/hours/week.Of course they blamed the companies they worked for and NOT the policies of the president they voted for.

Of course they would not blame their Lord and Savior. Obama is fighting against all the evil in the country - most Republicans - and he will continue in the Modus operandi until the 2014 elections. HE WANTS ALL THESE YOUNG SKULLS FULL OF MUSH TO BELIEVE THAT HE IS "FIGHTING" FOR THEM AND THEIR FUTURE. The fact that he is Prez and his policies are destroying their future is not to enter their empty brains - this is aided and abetted by the Admin Press.

Why? One might question whether it could be related to the fact that, for decades, so-called "progressive" control of the education of youth have prepared them for such a time, substituting "other" ideas for America's founding ideas of Creator-endowed rights, freedom for individual enterprise and pursuit of happiness under a "People's" Constitution to limit their government.

The following is excerpted from a series entitled, "Lessons on Liberty," by a Co-Editor of "Our Ageless Constitution" & "Rediscovering the Ideas of Liberty." The "Lesson" contrasts the Founders' Ideas of Liberty" to be taught to rising generations, with the Counterfeit Ideas promoted in the "public schools" of America for decades.

IDEAS OF LIBERTY:

(from America’s Founders and Presidents)

“The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them.” (Jefferson - 1774)

“Statesmen may plan and speculate for Liberty, but it is Religion and Morality alone which can establish the principles upon which Freedom can securely stand.” (John Adams - 1775)

“The Sacred Rights of Mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the Hand of the Divinity itself, and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.” (Alexander Hamilton)

“Without God, there could be no American form of government, nor an American way of life. Recognition of the Supreme Being is the first and the most basic expression of Americanism. Thus the founding fathers saw it, and thus, with God’s help, it will continue to be.” (Dwight Eisenhower)

“The same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe, the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.” (John F. Kennedy - 1961 Inaugural)

“…it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly implore His protection and favor….”(George Washington)

“Now the virtue which had been infused into the Constitution…and was to give it…the stability and duration to which it was destined, was no other than…those abstract principles…proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence—namely, the self-evident truths of the…unalienable rights of man…the…sovereignty of the people, always subordinate to a rule of right and wrong, and always responsible to the Supreme Ruler of the universe for the rightful exercise of that sovereign…power.” (John Quincy Adams, on the occasion of The Jubilee of the Constitution - 1839)

"Today, across our nation, we see consequences of decades of gross neglect and outright censorship of the Founders’ ideas from textbooks and from our public discourse. We have allowed counterfeit ideas to dominate the public square, and the Founders’ principles have been crowded out. Unwittingly, many teachers and other unknowing officials have participated in the agenda of an unelected mind-controlling elite whose tyrannical actions have robbed generations of Americans from reading or studying the ideas that made America free. Like termites, they have eroded our foundations as effectively as if they had burned the books. Yet, not once have they been willing to call it by its rightful name—censorship. Once, in America, stifling ideas about the Creator and Creator-endowed liberty was considered unthinkable. . . .

"The ideas of liberty must be passed on from generation to generation if liberty is to survive. These ideas, when they are allowed to be examined freely, will prevail, because their appeal is to reason and to the love for liberty that is deep in the human heart. John Adams warned: “The people of America now have the best opportunity and the greatest trust in their hands, that Providence ever committed to so small a number…if they betray their trust, their guilt will merit even greater punishment than other nations have suffered, and the indignation of Heaven.”

COUNTERFEIT IDEAS:

(from some of those whose views have dominated national educational policy)

“The idea of God is the keystone of a perverted society. The true root of liberty, equality and culture is atheism.” (Karl Marx)

Our thinking is enlightened “in the degree in which we cease to depend upon belief in the supernatural.” (John Dewey, father of ‘progressive education’ and 1st President of American Humanist Society)

“…democracy is a human faith and movement, unencumbered by supernatural preconceptions.” (John Childs, a protégé of John Dewey at Columbia)

“…the majority of our youth still hold the values of their parents, and if we do not alter this pattern, if we do not resocialize ourselves to accept change, our society may decay.” (John Goodlad, 1971 Report to President, Schooling for the Future)

“As in 1933, humanists still believe that traditional theism, especially a faith in the prayer-hearing God, who is assumed to love and care for persons, to hear and understand their prayers, and be able to do something about them, is an unproved and outmoded faith.” (Humanist Manifesto II, 1973)

“…the most important factor moving us toward a secular society has been the educational factor. Our schools may not teach Johnny to read properly, but the fact that Johnny is in school until he is sixteen tends to lead toward elimination of religious superstition.” (Paul Blanshard, The Humanist, March-April, 1976)

“It [the Nat’l. Education Association’s publication list] includes the delegitimizing of all authority save that of the state, the degradation of traditional morality and the encouragement of citizens in general and children in particular to despise the rules and customs that make their society a functional democracy. The NEA is drifting into exceedingly dangerous waters, and probably carrying more than a few teachers and pupils with it.” (Chester E. Finn, Jr., Ass’t. Sec. Of Education & Prof. Of Education & Public Policy, Vanderbilt Univ., 1982)

--------------

“Now, my countrymen, if you have been taught doctrines which conflict with the great landmarks of the Declaration of Independence…let me entreat you to come back. Return to the fountains whose waters spring close to the blood of the Revolution.” (Abraham Lincoln)

Every kid pictured in that photo of Obama in front of the crowd, is the product of dysfunctional, ignorant, lazy, stupid, and/or absentee parents.

My 32 year old son was a 'Rush baby', and even he voted for Obama. He now freely admits what a boneheaded thing that was to do, and no longer defends Obama's failures, but...
