As President Barack Obama pulls out all the stops to push his gun control agenda, even using Air Force One to fly parents of Sandy Hook victims to lobby on Capitol Hill, the man who launched the first inquiry about Operation Fast and Furious more than two years ago may be poised to derail the presidents runaway train.
Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley is still working out the details of an alternative bill that, according to spokesperson Beth Levine, will emphasize mental health, protecting veterans from losing their gun rights, and improving school security. It will not erode Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, she assured. The American Spectator first hinted at these measures here.
The A-rated Republican is reportedly skeptical about expanding background checks and other gun control proposals. His skepticism was reinforced by the PoliceOne survey results, discussed by this column, which suggest overwhelming rank-and-file law enforcement opposition to gun and magazine bans as an effective measure. The survey also showed strong support for concealed carry by law-abiding citizens.
Senator Grassley is considering alternatives that emphasize support for the Second Amendment that might include fixing the NICs system, providing resources to help address mental health problems and school safety, protection for veterans from false health determinations and gun trafficking, she said via e-mail. This may be separate issues or packaged in some way, which will be determined after the Majority Leader figures out a course of action for the Senate to proceed.
Grassleys alternative measure, Levine said, is a work in progress so there are not a lot of details. But in a telephone conversation Tuesday with Examiner, she highlighted the gun trafficking aspect, to make sure something like Fast and Furious never happens again.

Tyrant Kim Un Hussein must be very pleased that his efforts to FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are progressing so easily.
Grassly has actually been doing a quiet commendable job on a lot of issues since the jerk became chief. His work on the IG matters was fine, he just did not have the support of those asshats who want to go along to get along. Unfortunately, a minority party senator has little thrust behind his agenda especially when those in his own parties would rather reach across the aisle to kiss someone’s ass.
What a hoot.
Grassley now writing a bill to remind everyone of fast & furious. Will Obama end up wishing he never brought this up?
Exactly! 15% U6 unemployment, dollar tanking, debt climbing to scary levels, Iran/N.Korea ready to attack, our soldiers spread around the world, etc, etc, etc...and he’s focused on Gay marriage and keeping honest citizens from getting guns? F-U Oblame-o and company!
BINGO!
All of these are just distractions!
They are smokescreen-generating distractions so that Commie Obama can easily achieve his real agenda: Destruction of American Values.
We know people died. There’s nothing that can take away the pain of their loss. This propogates the hurt and they become victims twice. Despicable.
He can only go so far with that agenda without disarming the citizens.
I dont know why the Repubs arent shoving fast and furious down the hypocrite in chief’s throat. Also, stop calling it fast and furious which 90% of the people associate with movies about driving.
Say it like it is, the President’s justice Department PURPOSELY gave guns to drug cartels KNOWING they would be used in MURDERS. Now they call for gun control in the US? Put President Full of S**t on the Defensive. Obasshole wants drug dealers to have guns but not American citizens.
They would if they could. They do not own the MSM. That is “progressive” property.
Of course. This is his chance. The goal is in sight. He can’t steal our savings until he takes our guns.
Obama, Don’t Tread On Me.
just sayin
Its that laser beam focus on jobs in disguise.
