Sen. Mike Lee blasts ‘closed-door backroom deals’ on gun bill; demands full text

On the Senate floor moments ago, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, reminded his colleagues that they still didn’t have the full text of the gun control bill they were about to vote on.

Lee explained that the text of the background check compromise proposed by Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Wednesday had still not been revealed.

“As of this morning, as of this very moment, not a single senator has been provided with the legislative text of that very provision.” Lee stated, reminding his colleagues that the provision was the “heart” of the bill.

Oh yeah, in this day and age, I depend upon my judges to make the rational decision...where have you been lately?

We can't allow the Senate to approve a bill they haven't read. The bastards are trying to do that with the gun and immigration bills. They didn't learn the hard lesson that is "Obamacare" today. Don't repeat the error. Better yet, take both bills to the shredder. We have enough laws on the books already.

Heh, maybe a bit left of center? Out future is in the balance and these judges think far left. Where does that leave us? Screwed comes to mind.

Our Constitution is only as valid as we are able to defend it and it seems that it is coming faster than I would have ever thought. Good luck to us - the remaining folks that will actually defend the Constitution. Seems to be getting smaller these days.

What is it about the Republicans everywhere? They stand for NOTHING. Oh, they pay lip service to “principles” but they a) don’t believe in them and b) never really defend them. They are too busy currying favor with their “good friends across the aisle”.

Outside of a few who (so far) have not sold out the people, the whole bunch of them are traitors. I do not use that term lightly. Anyone who does not uphold the oath of office is a traitor.

Legislate without reading the bill.
Agreed ,.. that’s how OdumboCare got passed , and look at what an unworkable disaster that is now !
It got passed to reduce medical costs..
INSTEAD , premiums are expected to be RAISED 32 % nationwide.

The “Devil is in the details” concept resulted in a 12 foot high pile of administrative ‘guidance’
that was never in the OdumboCare bill.

Even spineless John McLame said that the Senate should debate pending legislation ,
but how do you debate an argument when you don’t even know what the legislative argument is about ?

All that I care to know is :
The Second Amendment protects ‘God-given rights’
How dare anyone in the Senate legislate against those ‘God-given rights’ ??
Do they consider themselves above God ?

Thanks for the link. I've scanned the Toomey/Manchin proposed text and it appears to be watered down vs. Dingy Harry's garbage.

One of the things that I find troubling is that firearms transported interstate must be unloaded and not accessible to to the driver. If a concealed carry holder has a valid license in two neighboring states, he should be allowed to carry while driving, but this federal law could trump state laws.

Right, and many states have open carry and people can have loaded firearms in their vehicles.
