As I have said for years, “so much for NRA Ratings”.

Ditto. // This only reinforces my leeriness tword that group -- combined w/ how they have pushed for some very narrow court-rulings I cannot but think their true motives are different than what they present or their average member thinks... much like the republican party itself.

People will simply hide their guns bigtime and not comply.

RE :”As for the Toomey-Manchin-Schumer universal registry bill, don't believe the press’ efforts to sugar-coat it. If you have ever had an “Internet ... posting” on (or related to) your gun, you can sell it only by going to a dealer and filling out a 4473 and getting the government's approval. Only a cave man would be exempt.
And once you have a 4473? Well, the ATF is going from dealer to dealer, copying the information on these forms, and feeding it into a database. But, says Toomey, he's against universal registries. This is where it would have helped if Toomey had consulted someone who knew something about guns.
Registration and violation of privacy.
First of all, Toomey’s anti-registry language prohibits photocopying the 4473’s, but it doesn't prohibit going into the FFL with a laptop and copying all the information. Second, ATF takes the position that the data it's accumulating in a database is not a “registry,” so Toomey’s ban does no good. Third, guess what the sanction is for violation of Toomey’s anti-registry language? Answer: Eric Holder has to choose to prosecute himself and his own department.

Endless gun control drama ping!

People can and do change all the time. Remember the saying?

“If you are 20 and not a liberal, you have NO HEART, but if you are 40 and is not a conservative, you have NO BRAIN.”

The hearings were a pathetic whitewash that put Koresh on trial instead of the ATF.

That disturbed me then (I wasn't even a teen yet), as I intuitively felt that there was something wrong about claiming "he was a polygamist, child molester, whatever" to gloss over the fact that if that was the case he still could/should have been arrested and tried. It disgusts me now that I am older, even more, because if it was true... then what reason did the ATF have to be there? Moreover, why wasn't it on a warrant? -- the more you look at Waco the worse you see it.

Been brewing and stewing for fifty years on the apparent willingness of the NRA to just go along to get along. Now what other organization gets daily accused of the very same thing?

The NRA has been in existance for every single addition to unconstitutional gun law to ever get on the books, and they continue to roll over and play dead with your rights and mine. One can only wish they had just a bit of the “shark” in their quiver, but alas, supporting democrats and giving out ratings seems to be the most one can hope for.

If they had any balls, they would be in concert with every other pro gun organiation making lots and lots of noise and calling in their chips, to protect preserve and defend our second amendment rights instead of standing by while “shall not be infringed” is rendered. Stick a fork in it Mabel, I think it’s done.

Hate to sound negative, but geez, NRA, get off hunting and get back to reality, you lost your way a long long time ago.

Sounds like the Pubbies may actually have used some strategy here

The GOP strategy is to help their Democrat pals disarm the American people while making the rank-n-file think they are engaged somekind super secret strategy to get those wascally Democrats.

What is the Republican Party?

The NRA has been in existance for every single addition to unconstitutional gun law to ever get on the books, and they continue to roll over and play dead with your rights and mine. One can only wish they had just a bit of the “shark” in their quiver, but alas, supporting democrats and giving out ratings seems to be the most one can hope for.

This is true -- I brought up an issue to their legal department but was brushed off because they "don't get involved in state-level battles" despite it being a very solid case. (See here.)

If they had any balls, they would be in concert with every other pro gun organiation making lots and lots of noise and calling in their chips, to protect preserve and defend our second amendment rights instead of standing by while “shall not be infringed” is rendered. Stick a fork in it Mabel, I think it’s done.

It's their unwillingness to challenge longstanding, yet obviously illegitimate laws -- like the banning of firearms for felons (more properly ex-felons, having served their sentence) was an ex post facto law by even the the USSC's "it only applies to criminal law, and then only if it extends or worsens the sentence of already convicted people" -- and current bad legislation (other than what they must to 'save face') that makes me leery of their true motives.

Hate to sound negative, but geez, NRA, get off hunting and get back to reality, you lost your way a long long time ago.

Agreed.

Good summary of where things stand, including detailed information. GOA is doing a much better job than NRA, that’s for sure.

I have little hope that this blatantly unconstitutional gun grabbing is going to be stopped. It sounds like amnesty for illegals is next in line and coming up very soon too.

We’re pretty much screwed, but I think you already know that.

Senator Heitkamp’s rating of AQ was based solely on questionnaire responses and noted as such. Her opponent, Rick Berg, had an A rating. Berg got the endorsement. The Western part of the State voted for Berg, the Eastern part voted for Heitkamp, who won by 3000 votes.

You can probably guess how many Republican’s in South Dakota wish the border was the river, and up east of Minot We would have West Dakota and East Dakota. Just think, no money issues of course all that oil would still be in the north part of West Dakota, but between Teddy Roosevelt, medora, the Black Hills, 16 million pheasants around Mott, the river, and a boatload of conservatives it would be a virtual paradise, until someone screwed it up.

With the crap going on in the ND legislature, who knows?

Hundreds of millions were slashed out of oil impact funding (infrastructure and emergency services money) in the oil producing counties, leading County commissioners in Williams County to be quoted saying words to the effect of 'If we got the four major counties together, we could shut this down' referring to the majority of oil activity (and revenue) which the rest of the state has been getting greedy over.

A Williston Herald follow-up story appears here: Dems taking initiative over stupidity in legislature (title mine)

Instead of calling it Toomey-Manchin why can’t we call it the Commie-GOPe Gun Bill?

Due process is what separates America from fascist hellholes, and Koresh was denied due process of law.

It got worse. Not only were Koresh and the other 80 who perished in the attack (men, women, and children--including infants) denied due process, those who survived and were found Not Guilty found their jury verdicts overturned by the presiding judge and ended up serving time.

It wasn't a tragedy, it was an obscenity.

Just the “Commie Gun Bill” would work for me. Unless the GOP can load the bill with repeals of infringements of the RKBA while purging any new infringements, (in which case it won’t pass the Senate), I see no good coming from this.

A caller to Rush yesterday brought up the very interesting theory that one reason 75% of the kids in government schools are diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, autism, etc., and placed on psycho-active drugs like Ritalin (among many other drugs, including anti-depressants) is so that one day the government can deny them, as grown-ups, “permission” to purchase firearms based on those “mental health” issues.

So the reason for all the drugging of kids in the schools may go way beyond merely making life more convenient for lazy parents and lazy teachers - - it may be a long-range setup for dismantling Second Amendment rights for most people. Once that’s accomplished, those who are left with government “permission” to own firearms can be dealt with in other ways.
