LAFAYETTE A state trooper, who saw a naked man struggling with a St. Landry Parish deputy in the deputys squad car on Interstate 49, fired his handgun and then stunned the alleged attacker with a stun gun, State Police Troop I said Thursday.
State Police said Byron Simon, 22, of Ville Platte, ran naked to the deputys squad car, jumped inside and began struggling with the deputy, who was responding to a report about a two-vehicle wreck at about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.
State trooper Travis Gallow, who also was responding to the accident, drove up to the deputy, who was pulled over near mile marker 40, and saw Simon fighting with him inside the car, State Police said.
Gallow fired his handgun, then used his stun gun to subdue Simon, according to the State Police.
The deputy has not been identified, and no one was injured in the incident, according to the release.
State Police and the Sheriffs Office sent officers to the mile-marker 40 area after a report about a two-vehicle accident, according to a statement released Thursday morning.
State Police said later Thursday that Simon was driving one of two Toyotas involved in the accident. Troopers said Simon clipped the other cars rear. After both vehicles stopped, Simon punched the other driver.
The other driver left the scene and called law enforcement, prompting the response of the deputy and trooper, the release stated.
Simon was taken to a hospital and later booked into the St. Landry Parish jail on one count each of first-offense DWI, driving with a suspended license, careless operation of a vehicle, no seat belt, expired inspection sticker, attempting to disarm a peace officer, simple battery, obscenity, simple burglary of an emergency vehicle, battery on a police officer and four counts of resisting a police officer, State Police said.
DANG!
"...betcha dat scrambled his eggs"
Fired his handgun then used his tazer seems kind of back wards to me. Least amount of force then move up the scale.
Naked man attacks a male deputy?
Please, no pictures required for this story.
If it was at the ground to scare him, then that would be better than firing it up in the air, but still not standard police procedure, I think.
“Warning Shots” are not allowed, are they?
We need to ban the 40 mile markers.
If naked dude was a dog he would have been shot and killed
In very limited situations a warning shot might be useful most of the time not.
