The approach on the Detroit side is going to eliminate the Delray neighborhood which is a serious slum and connect to the EC Row Highway.

A little off topic, but can't we just give Detroit to Canada?

No way, haven't you heard? We are broke, there is no way we could afford to borrow from China what Canada would charge us for taking it.

Why in the world would Windsor agree to this?

Why not just fly everyone to Mogadishu?

It's probably safer than Detroit.

Obambalam signed the approval for the new Detroit bridge.

What do ya think the chances are that he’ll claim credit for jobs created?

Doesn’t make sense. There is no need for a bridge now that the Democrats have destroyed health care in America. Soon, Canadians will find that American health care has become just as crappy as Canadian health care. Why wait in line to see a Detroit doctor when you can wait in line back at home, eh?

Actually, most crossings for medical care are done over the Niagara. A client of mine was an MRI clinic in Buffalo that had more Canadian patients than American.

The first Spanish explorer, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, exploring in 1542, seems to have missed San Francisco Bay (but was enthusiastic about Monterey Bay). Where exactly Sir Francis Drake explored is debated--I've seen one book which argues that he was much further north (Puget Sound area).

Cabrillo has traditionally been labeled a Portuguese (sailing for Spain) but that is based on one source--apparently the "Portuguese" label belongs to another man in a list of names, not to Cabrillo. Most likely he was a Spaniard.

The British captured Detroit in the War of 1812. Our ambassadors in Ghent should have insisted that they keep it.

Hindsight is 20/20.

This is the neighborhood where I was born. My grandfather bought a house on Lisbon just a couple of years after arriving from Ireland (legally), and my dad pounded a beat in the 4th Precinct. At the time, Delray was solidly Hungarian, just as Hamtramck was Polish. The area around the base of the bridge was Greektown and Corktown. It is almost exclusively Mexican now. I’ve been gone many years, but I left my heart in old Detroit.

Yep, I once remarked after I crossed the Ambassador Bridge, that we must have skipped right over the US, and wound up in Mexico.

Not being a lawyer and knowing absolutely nothing about the previous agreement, I would tend to agree with you. How can a private citizen dictate something which is basically an international affair between two government? Maroun is maron er moron.

My great grandfather became a citizen in Detroit as well after immigrating from Austria. Delray is a mess these days but on the bright side, the bridge will bring long term jobs in warehousing and freight handling.

Those who lose their homes to eminent domain will probably get a better deal than they would trying to sell on the open market due to Michigan law.

Warren Buffet used to be the Canadian half of the ownership partnership. Even that seems a little iffy to me. Believing he has a right to operate without competition is ridiculous on its face.

The other lawsuit brought by the democrat doesn’t stand much chance either since we voted to allow Rick Snyder the authority in November.

Will be an industrial view rolling into town. Wonder if we will be able to see the Rouge green roof from the bridge.

Sure, why not build another route for the Obama fascist regime to invade Canada?

After all, Canada is polluting the world with the Tar Sands in Alberta, and we need an second bridge so Obama can build his bridge heads twice as fast.

Canada will get payback for trying to invade the USA with a pipe line!

I’m just laughing at the sheer gall of some private citizen claiming only he can authorize the construction of travel connections between countries. That takes a lot of nerve. Whatever “legal agreement” he claimed to have signed isn’t worth the paper it was printed on.
