Gun Control Derangement Syndrome
The AMERICAN THINKER ^ | April 15, 2013 | Jonathon Moseley

Posted on 04/15/2013 3:03:08 AM PDT by Moseley

Will the ATF's "No Buy" list be any more accurate than TSA's "No Fly" list? If lists are not accurate or meaningful, background checks won't succeed. Senators Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) released a gun-control bill on April 10 that leans heavily on expanding background checks. However, their proposal is only as good as the lists used for the background checks.

First, what happened to patient privacy? The Toomey/Manchin proposal proudly announces that their bill "Clarifies that submissions of mental health records into the NICS system are not prohibited by federal privacy laws (HIPAA)." A retired emergency room physician -- my Dad -- quips that HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) means everyone but the patient can see the patient's medical records. So now every time a patient sees a therapist, the whole world will know?

Gun-control activists want background checks to keep people with mental illness from buying a gun. That's sounds like a great idea. But now thousands of private gun dealers will be reading your confidential and sensitive medical records? I recently worked on a political campaign in which the candidate's medical records were publicly revealed -- taken from divorce records. Gun control will erase the privacy protections of HIPAA.

Red State is reporting that, tipped off by Congressional staffers reviewing the legislation, doctors will be required to add a patient to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) without ever telling the patient. There won't be any due process -- a chance for you to dispute inaccurate information. And everyone's medical and psychiatric records have to be reported, because who knows who is going to walk in tomorrow and ask to buy a gun?

Gun-control activists want background checks to keep people with mental illness from buying a gun. That’s sounds like a great idea.

A great idea only if you are anti Bill of Rights.

What applies to one of the amendments must by logic and rule of law apply equally to all others, thus any restriction on “shall not be infringed, must apply to the freedom of speech religion, voting, etc.

If one is required to phone in a request to government for permission to purchase a gun then surely it follows, one must make a phone call to ones government and be found on a “list” to vote, speak, or attend church. I’m quite sure those idiots controlling this dialog on guns are controlling it for just this reason, because restrictions on their beloved freedom to hack the Constitution into irrelevant pieces must not be infringed at any cost.

Plainly states all the “Gun-Control Activists” fit the bill of having mental illness therefore no guns for them.

That’s what they did in the ex-Soviet Union. If you opposed the policies of the regime, you were viewed as having a mental illness and sent off for “treatment” and in some cases, never heard from or seen again.

One interesting aspect of this is that until a relatively few years ago, all LEO’s carried a 38 Special, 5 or 6 shot revolver. Why did they switch to semi-automatic 9MM and .40? Because that is what the criminals were shooting at them. Now, the politicians want to give us bean flippers..

All ready been done.
Problem solved in 1968.

“Today we begin to disarm the criminal and the careless and the insane. All of our people who are deeply concerned in this country about law and order should hail this day.”

- Lyndon Johnson when he signed the 1968 GCA into law.
