Boston Tragedy Delays Immigration Bill By ERICA WERNER

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senators are set to unveil a sweeping immigration bill this week to secure the border, remake legal immigration, boost workplace enforcement and put 11 million people here illegally on a path to citizenship.

A group of eight lawmakers, equally divided between Republicans and Democrats, planned to formally introduce the bill Tuesday, although a press event with activists, business leaders and religious groups was delayed until later in the week after the tragedy at the Boston marathon.

Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and John McCain, R-Ariz., planned to meet with President Barack Obama Tuesday to discuss the legislation with him, according to a person with knowledge of the plan who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private meeting. Immigration legislation is a top second-term priority for the president.

The legislation would be the culmination of months of closed-door meetings among a so-called Gang of Eight senators, including McCain, Schumer and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

Their legislation aims to strike a balance between enforcement provisions sought by Republicans, and Democratic priorities, including making citizenship widely accessible.

McCain, Rubio and other Republicans who wrote the immigration bill briefed other members of the Senate GOP caucus on its contents Monday night.

Afterward, some senators said they appreciated the briefing but still have much to learn before they can commit to supporting the legislation. Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio said there needs to be a focus on enforcement before anything else. And Sen. John Boozman of Arkansas said he has concerns about anything that could be perceived as amnesty.

Democrats, RINO’s = same thing. Where’s the balance?

and MA too. home of Sen Liz Warren.

I was having similar thoughts about the gun background check bill and how those weeping CT parents flying around with Obama will not be able to get on camera anymore due to this new much more pressing story.

Would background checks have stopped these explosions? Or amnesty?

Obama has some fancy dancing to do to get back on track.

The immigration bill is likely dead after the Boston bombings for two reasons: (1) the bill will all too obviously provide automatic legalization of many with terrorist sympathies, ties, and procilvities; and (2), the bombings will dominate the news cycle in ways that make it hard to mobiolize media attention and pressure in favor of amnesty.

Liberals have been claiming that there are “11 million” illegals in the US for over a decade now. The true number is probably closer to 50 million.

Don’t aid and abet their perfidy by repeating that lie.

I just hope the media attention doesn’t distract it to the point that they pass it behind our backs anyway. Hopefully, if anything, it will call attention to the fact that we need a _more_ secure border and less “immigrants” now more than ever before.

I hope you are correct. I think this is quite possible...especially if the perp is a foreigner who entered the country thru illegal or extra-legal means

You can be sure La Raza Rubio groaned loudly today when the Boston Marathon bombing happened. It will be harder for Rubio and MS 8 to push Illegal Alien Amnesty after such a terrorist act. La Raza Rubio praying this was not an illegal alien hispanic that did this

Seems like this bombing suspect would prove we need greater border security.

But this is Obamaland....

When is the treatment of American citizens in Mexico and their rights vs US treatment of Mexicans going to be an issue when we discuss amnesty ?

This is a question: Should Mexican citizens when in the US be given the same rights American citizens are given while in Mexico? This has yet to appear on any US legislator’s questionaire from either chamber....ASK YOUR FEDERAL LEGISLATORS WHY IT HASN’T

What makes it necessary for US to subjugate our sovereignty because of available cheap labor ? While we encourage wholesale abortion as the Godless Demo-Coms socialists encourage population control. Then complain the US is not reproducing enough to replace its aging supply of workers to keep their welfare ponzie schemes supplied with tax money to keep the system working.

Ever hear of reciprocal aggrements ? These are arranged to protect the rights of American citizens working or living in other countries.

Why is it when it comes to citizens of other countries we are required to offer them the same privledges as we do to US citizens? But when it comes to US citizens who get in trouble or attempt to do business in other countries they do not get the same treatment their citizens get.

Americans can’t own coast land in Mexico. And get no title to it elsewhere. If they run out of cash they’ll get unceremoniously sent back or put in jail untill some relative comes up with the “fresh”. That’s just for starters as for granting them voting privledges yea let’s give Mexican citizens that right when American citizens vote in their elections .

Those are valid concerns, but I think the backers of the immigration bill are less optimistic today than they were two days ago.

The failure of the Bush administration to secure our borders was a near-criminal dereliction of duty.

This so-called "Boston" excuse is so bogus---The Hill reprted BEFORE the bombings that the bill was being delayed. They all know the bill is going nowhere.

Dollars to donuts Ohaha is using the Boston bombings to ward off the relentless latino lobbies hounding him and congress---the entrenched Third World on US soil is salivating for tax-financed freebies, reconquista, and big buck foreign aid packages.

===================================

I posted this yesterday BEFORE THE BOMBINGS:

THIS JUST IN---The Hill is reporting that the Senate hearing on reform has been rescheduled.

MY COMMENTS FOLLOWED Too many big words in the bill for Democrats? (cackle) Who's kidding who? 1,500 pages is just not workable..Ohaha will just x-out parts that won't elect democrats... The bill grants broad discretionary powers to the Executive Branch. So, if you like the dictatorial powers Ohaha has alreay grabbed, and the ones given to DHS, the EPA, and the various Obamacare boards, you will l-o-v-e this monstrosity.

==========================================

Vote-crazed politicians push legislation through, wrap everything in a nice bow, put a few "victims" on tv.....et voila...another protected class is born. Next thing you know, your pockets are emptier, you have fewer freedoms, and politicians have a nifty new voting bloc to keep them in office forever....... w/ perks.......

ATTN: CALIFORNIANS!

Here is an OLD article that relays just how Rubio’s chief of staff, CESAR CONDA helped to destroy Calif. Prop. 187 (and every other immigration control initiative!)

January 1995

[snips]The two-to-one vote in favor of California’s Prop. 187 is a milestone in the battle against the welfare state. It is a victory that will help reclaim individual liberty against centralized power.....What exactly did the referendum propose? It brought an end to all government subsidies to illegal aliens in California, including welfare in the form of public education and health care, except in cases of emergencies. That’s it. It was a chance, perhaps for the first time this century, for the people of a state to vote up or down on whether to keep or scrap a welfare program in its totality.

Let’s be clear: Prop. 187 did not attack immigration.
But it wasn’t just the left and the establishment that mobilized against Proposition 187. Some intellectuals, politicians, and thinktanks of the respectable right launched a frantic campaign as well. Canadian commentator David Frum and Washington neocon William Kristol joined the attacks.

And one week before the election, Cesar V. Conda of the Alexis de Tocqueville Institution gathered signers for a statement opposing Prop. 187. “In our view,” the statement said, missing the point entirely, the initiative will become “a hostile crusade against all immigrants.”
He gathered signers from most of the big thinktanks, including the Heritage Foundation, the Reason Foundation, the Cato Institute, the Manhattan Institute, and the Competitive Enterprise Institute. The media reported that these groups had thrown their institutional weight into defeating the measure.

The antics of Jack Kemp and Bill Bennett made the Tocqueville Institution statement appear moderate, however. To media cheers, they echoed the message of their liberal allies. Put simply, they said Prop. 187 is racist. “Does anyone seriously doubt that Latino children named Rodriguez would be more likely to appear to be illegal than Anglo children named, say, Jones?”

First, they trained all their guns on the woefully underfunded, politically inexperienced grassroots activists in the Yes on 187 committee. They were called every named in the book, as the smear brigade went into overdrive. This well-funded opposition even ran radio ads claiming that 187 was backed by “white supremacists.” [the ‘they’ referred to here was Conda along with GROVER NORQUIST]

BOSTON BOMBINGS---A REALISTIC VIEW Prostrate politicians, all puckered up, sucking up for latino votes will do ANYTHING to stay in power......even put Americans in danger. Read on.

NY POST EXCERPT--- Mexican cartels dispatch agents deep inside US - spread into non-border states

CHICAGO (AP) — Mexican drug cartels whose operatives once rarely ventured beyond the US border are dispatching some of their most trusted agents to live and work deep inside the United States — an emboldened presence that experts believe is meant to tighten their grip on the world's most lucrative narcotics market and maximize profits. If left unchecked, authorities say, the cartels' move into the American interior could render the syndicates harder than ever to dislodge and pave the way for them to expand into other criminal enterprises such as prostitution, kidnapping-and-extortion rackets and money laundering.

Some cartels even have Mexican operatives fill out job applications before being dispatched to the US, Riley added.

In Mexico, the cartels are known for a staggering number of killings — more than 50,000, according to one tally. Beheadings are sometimes a signature. So far, cartels don't appear to be directly responsible for large numbers of slayings in the United States, though the Texas Department of Public Safety reported 22 killings and five kidnappings in Texas at the hands of Mexican cartels from 2010 through mid- 2011. Still, police worry that increased cartel activity could fuel heightened violence.--SNIP--

In Chicago, the police commander who oversees narcotics investigations, James O'Grady, said street-gang disputes over turf account for most of the city's uptick in murders last year, when slayings topped 500 for the first time since 2008.

Although the cartels aren't dictating the territorial wars, they are the source of drugs. Riley's assessment is stark: He argues that the cartels should be seen as an underlying cause of Chicago's disturbingly high murder rate. "They are the puppeteers," he said. "Maybe the shooter didn't know and maybe the victim didn't know that. But if you follow it down the line, the cartels are ultimately responsible."
