President Obama snubs Margaret Thatcher funeral
The Sun ^

Posted on 04/16/2013 1:59:30 AM PDT by UKrepublican

US President Barack Obama will snub Lady Thatcher’s funeral by failing to send a single senior member of his administration, The Sun can reveal.

Ageing former Secretaries of State James Baker, 82, and George Shultz, 92, will lead the US delegation, the White House will announce today.

The slight comes as German leader Angela Merkel also declines the official invite. She will send her foreign minister instead.

But Downing Street is most angered by rejections from Obama, First Lady Michelle and Vice-President Joe Biden.

And none of the four surviving ex-US leaders — Jimmy Carter, George Bush Sr, Bill Clinton and George Bush Jr — is coming either.

The response contrasts with glowing US tributes on the day Lady Thatcher died.

A No 10 source said last night: “We are a little surprised by the White House’s reaction as we were expecting a high-profile attendance.”

The snub came ahead of last night’s Boston marathon bomb outrage.

Allow me to coin a new word: statanist. It refers to the true allegiance of our current "leaders."

I'm for that.

I’m surprised someone from the Reagan family isn’t going? I would imagine they were invited, too! I’m surprised about Pres. Bush 43, but it’s possible they might have engagements they can’t back out of. Or in Bush 43’s case, people have been saying he’s had back surgery a few months back. I’m glad Mr. Cheney’s going, though; he worked under Pres.s Reagan, Bush 1 and Bush 2 administrations; James Baker’s going and so is George Shultz. I’m surprised about Shultz; I thought he passed a few years ago?

Why not, she was good friends with the Bush’s too? I realize most people on this forum anymore have much sympathy for the Bush’s any more. They find some reason to trash them for everything!

Agreed. I’m very glad Obama will be staying away. Swarms of flies would be terrible at a funeral service.

Now I can watch the service in peace....that is, if it’s even being shown anywhere. I checked my Directv guide for tomorrow, and I see nothing.

Hey, he almost died over Christmas himself, didn’t he? Maybe he’s not supposed to be traveling; didn’t you think of that? Oh yeah, let’s just assign the worst motives to the Bush’s just because you don’t like them! Good Lord!

That is: “most people on here don’t have much sympathy for the Bush’s anymore”. That didn’t make sense in the previous post!

Good! Why disgrace the proceedings with a member of Soetoro’s administration.

However I am ashamed that George Bush decided not to go.

It would appear, that in the end, George 'went wobbly' after all...

There is not a set of balls that are large enough... not amongst those in Britain that would be willing to do it... there are some bad boys over there but they would refuse such an illegal order. Cheney is going... let them try to take him. No way. I agree with you about their courts but ours are no better. We have a traitor heading our own SCOTUS.

Who was the highest-ranking British rep to go to Reagan’s? I don’t remember any actual officials going.

Not being combative. Just making a point. I don’t think leaders of nations should be expected to make major trips for a funeral. Now, assigning someone of reasonable rank, I guess. Even the VP I guess could be spared.

I don’t know. I think someone of decent importance should go, but I would not expect the Pres himself unless he actually worked with the deceased.

Our PM and Prince Charles both attended.

This is more symbolic than that, Thatcher isn’t any old PM like Reagan wasn’t any old President.

The PM came? OK. Pretty big.

No doubt Thatcher was no average PM. I love the ol’gal. Towering figure.

I see there is going to be a replay of her funeral. I hope to watch it. I watched alot of Reagan’s and 1 of my most “sad”/bittersweet moments was seeing Lady Thatcher in the church at the actual funeral, she bent sideways but still present no matter what.

I hope and pray these commie scum will not make an imprint on her events.
