Iran strongly condemns Boston blasts

AFP - Iran's foreign ministry strongly condemned the twin bomb blasts at the Boston Marathon that killed at least three people, the country's state television reported on Tuesday.

"Iran strongly condemns the killing of American citizens in Boston," said ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast, calling the bombings a "source of sorrow".

"No one should under any circumstances support terrorism and extremism, whether it be in the Middle East or the United States," he said.

Two bomb blasts struck one of America's top sporting events Monday, killing at least three and wounding more than 100 as the Boston Marathon descended into chaos.

US President Barack Obama went on national television to warn against "jumping to conclusions" but a senior White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said such an attack was "clearly an act of terror".

Security was stepped up in major cities across the US following Monday's blasts which evoked memories of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Iran and the US, which have had no diplomatic relations for more than three decades, do not see eye to eye on a broad range of issues, including Tehran's nuclear ambitions and its support for the Syrian regime.

Sometimes I think worry about Iran distracts our political leaders from much greater threats in the world.

Iran seemed more outraged than our own lousy President. Unreal.

Iran actually had candlelight vigils after 9/11, as opposed to the celebrations you saw in other ME countries. Its an odd place.

Bet the left try to blame it on patriots / Tea Party because of the timing even though the m.o. and components used suggest a Middle Eastern terrorist.

Iran has distanced themselves from this, so has the Taliban. It’s looking more and more like a lone wolf scenario and not some plot hatched by international terrorist groups. Could be a Major Hassan type of scenario where we have someone inspired by terrorists organizations to go out and commit a terrorist act themselves.

Of course the Iranian regime has distanced itself! Are they stupid enough to announce a `Day of Muslims’ Joy’ in the streets of Teheran? I’ll guarantee you that Imadamnnutjob & his henchmen broke out the quality khat when this story hit. They love hearing of Americans killed by bomb blasts!

Pure cynical crocodile tears, all of it. Are they passing out candies in the streets of Gaza? Bet on it.

The IRI always tried to distance itself from terrorist attacks.
Means nothing.
(not that there’s any indication that they’re involved in this....yet)

Let’s not forget that the first nation to send condolences after 9-11 was...Afghanistan.

Many Iranian people are well disposed towards Americans, unlike their government. The Iranian government just doesn't want to stir up anti-Iranian sentiment that might lead to a future Republican president giving them a long overdue supersize shipment of asswhip.

These terrorists love to take credit for their terrorist acts. That’s the whole idea. One other thing, I’ve not seen khat in the Middle East. I’ve seen it in Somalia and African countries. Not sure if the muzzies in the middle east use it or not, but generally it’s associated with Somali pirates

Hmmm....since muzzies aren’t allowed happy juice I thought the Iranian junta would have to celebrate with something.

IIRC khat is used around the Persian Gulf generally.

Iran is hoping it turns out to be Saudis.

That would be as sweet as honey, for them.

But it would not change US policy and their pro-Saudi alliance. Nothing could.
