An Al-Shabaab Link to Boston Marathon Bombings?
pj media ^ | 4/16/13 | Bridget Johnson

A series of Twitter gloats today raised questions about the possible involvement of Somali terror group Al-Shabaab in the Boston Marathon bombing.

No person or group has yet directly taken responsibility for the attack that killed three and wounded 176, 17 of those critically. The FBI issued a be-on-the-lookout for a dark-skinned or black man in dark clothes, perhaps with a foreign accent, who tried to enter a restricted area moments before the first blast. Authorities were also questioning a Saudi national here on a student visa and searched an apartment in Revere, Mass., last night.

Terror groups have shown a fondness for Twitter in recent years, and last night al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab posted three tweets around 2 a.m. Eastern time:

They swept for bombs twice BEFORE the race started. I wonder how many people saw the perpetrator toss a pressure cooker (if that rumor is true) in the trash without a second thought about it.

I tell you, this is looking a LOT like somebody who was protesting taxes.

Nah. The terrorist in Afghanistan use the pressure cooker bombs to kill American servicemen all the time. This was a foreign hit. They're looking for a dark skinned guy wearing a hoodie right now.
There's absolutely NOTHING that connects this to an American taxpayer - not yet. Connecting it to any right wing issue is just liberal spin. Don't fall prey to it (if they repeat the lie often enough......)

It’s also Israel Independence Day (more or less, it was that evening).

It’s called “the catastrophe” in muslim circles and the terrorists sites was full of calls by Imans to blow up Americans and Jews on that day.

Not to point out the obvious or anything.

McVeigh was very anti-American and a supporter of Iraq.

Hardly conservative.

You don’t need a plug or batteries for your pressure cooker to do this. Not gonna elaborate as the idiot media is already filling up with “How To” guides today.

Most pressure cookers are used on top of a gas or electric range.

Pressure cookers ARE NOT “plug-ins”. They are pressurized vessels made out of heavy gauge aluminum that are operated with an external heat source. Commonly used for canning they have a lid that locks into place with a substantial gasket to avoid leakage and a pressure relief device.

There is a BIG difference between a pressure cooker and your typical kitchen appliances like rice cookers and crock pots.

They would be used in bomb making to allow the explosive pressure to build up before blowing open the vessel.

The bomber didn’t want to cook in it. He just wanted a large, sealable metal container to build his bomb in. A pressure cooker would up the explosive power of the bomb and also keep bomb-sniffing dogs from smelling it.

every pressure cooker I’ve ever owned was put on a stove.

That said, the vessel is just used because it is strongly sealed and yet has a hole to run a wire in for the detonator.

Why didn’t the dogs in this “drill” find any of these explosives?

And wouldn’t the desired effect be sort of like a pipe bomb?

Doesn’t the pressure cooker work kind of like a pipe bomb(what I’ve heard...not a bomb person here...) in that it would add a great deal of force to whatever it was packed with on exploding?

Yeah I guess I have to go back on my original statement..I dont know much about these things since I dont cook LOL but I was just talking to my Mom about it and she said yes, there are electric pressure cookers, she doesn’t like them because they have a tendency to explode..just have to find out what kind of group likes using this method to attack

Some anti-tax person wouldn’t have just randomly targeted civillians at a sporting event. They would have gone for an IRS office or a federal building, something along those lines. This has Muslim terrorist fingerprints all over it.

In my teenage years a recall making sparkler firecracker. Most either fizzled or the casing was so tight the explosion sputtered. It would seem to be that the person making the bomb had good training to know the appropriate ratios. Either the person was trained abroad or had to have live test in the US. Either way, this leaves a trail.

Ah, that’s why the dogs wouldn’t have discovered the bombs. Makes a good cover so the DHS could say they were vigilant and yet the bombs still go off without being detected.

Sounds crazy, I know, but every time there is a terrorist attack there is a counterterrorism “drill” going on at the same time in the same place for that particular kind of attack, and it never stops anything from happening. Whole lotta coincidences there.

Pressure Cookers are usually plug ins. In fact, I’ve not seen a battery operated one.

You'd need a pretty impressive battery to make a pressure cooker cook normally.

But these pressure cookers were being used as bomb casings, not for cooking. So, you'd need just a tiny battery to operate the detonator and possibly to power the timing mechanism. Or maybe no battery at all. Perhaps just a slow-burning fuse or a mechanical detonator actuated by a mechanical timer.

“It shouldn’t have been an easy target. DHS was all over the Fish Line area. Trash cans should not have been there. It could just as easily been an Occupier who wanted to punish evil corporate sponsor John Hancock Financial. The bombs also went off long after the Elite Runners from Africa passed the Finish Line. What Racist would let them get by safely?”

It is a relatively easy target. Unlike a stadium event, there is no way to check people as they enter because there are no fixed entry points. The event is spread out over 20+ miles. There were more than 20,000 participants, finishing over a period of two hours. Each participant probably had some kind of athletic bag or backpack in custody of a friend or family member, containing clothes and energy drinks and so forth. These backpacks would be everywhere. Particularly after the frontrunners crossed the finish line, there would be a tendency for the crowds to dissipate and the security to relax a bit. Then it would be even easier to infiltrate the crowd with a bomb or bombs.
