An Al-Shabaab Link to Boston Marathon Bombings?
pj media ^ | 4/16/13 | Bridget Johnson

Posted on 04/16/2013 11:18:43 AM PDT by Nachum

A series of Twitter gloats today raised questions about the possible involvement of Somali terror group Al-Shabaab in the Boston Marathon bombing.

No person or group has yet directly taken responsibility for the attack that killed three and wounded 176, 17 of those critically. The FBI issued a be-on-the-lookout for a dark-skinned or black man in dark clothes, perhaps with a foreign accent, who tried to enter a restricted area moments before the first blast. Authorities were also questioning a Saudi national here on a student visa and searched an apartment in Revere, Mass., last night.

Terror groups have shown a fondness for Twitter in recent years, and last night al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab posted three tweets around 2 a.m. Eastern time:

Somali trash talking over dead and wounded.

I can't wait till they catch the SOB's who did this. Hope they waterboard them every day. Every hour.

If a Somali terror group is responsible, can we deport all Somali immigrants back to Somalia? If we can save only one American life, it will be worth it. That’s what the Left says.

Department of Homeland Security was concerned enough about pressure cooker bombs to issue an alert to federal and state security officials: “A technique commonly taught in Afghan terrorist training camps is the use/conversion of pressure cookers into IEDs,”

I tell you, this is looking a LOT like somebody who was protesting taxes. 1773 - The Boston tea party protest....Yesterday was tax day. Maaaaan, I hope that is not the case. That would be one hell of a strange coincidence if it isn’t. Tax day? April 15th? And it happens in Boston? God almightly, it that is the case the left and the communist propaganda machine posing as our media will amp up their trashing the Tea party a million percent. On the other hand it could have been some leftists wanting to make it look like something tea party related. Now THAT would be something if that is found to be the case.

The Boston Marathon was the lowest hanging fruit as far as ease of penetrating a sporting event. Whoever did this likely had limited resources, so took the opportunity to hit the easiest target.

Just heard on FOX, Saudi officially ruled out as a suspect.

Of course he was. Oboma opened the American door - wide open - for the Saudis. There's no way the oboma administration would ever convict a Saudi. It would make oboma look really, really bad.

They're going to have to create another villain (like they did for Sandra Levy).

Panetta Details Steps Needed to End al-Qaeda Threat

by Cheryl Pellerin, American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Nov 21, 2012

Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta said:

... In Somalia, against the militant group al-Shaabab, progress also has been made, the secretary said, “in large part because of an effective partnership between the United States and the African Union Mission in Somalia.”

That is the more likely scenario. All one has to do is pull the video of the Tea Party march on Washington to know the TP wouldn't think of doing this. The TP consists of grannies, veterans, small business owners, football and soccer moms. A lot of older women with their straw hats. Just a bunch of people who were opposed to obamacare and high taxes. Real Americans. To look at the Tea Party members and view them as threatening is a joke.

Yeah but it could have been some psycho, another McVeigh.

Timothy McVeigh had links to middle east terror networks. And he was a Democrat, the son of a union goon. Like father, like son.

Being anti-government is not the sole criteria for Conservatism. A genuine terrorist, Bill Ayers, fits that profile and he's an Obama-supporting Democrat. The pro-God, pro-life core that defines Conservatism is such that those on the right simply do not engage in the murderous acts of terrorism.

Nah. The terrorist in Afghanistan use the pressure cooker bombs to kill American servicemen all the time. This was a foreign hit. They're looking for a dark skinned guy wearing a hoodie right now.
There's absolutely NOTHING that connects this to an American taxpayer - not yet. Connecting it to any right wing issue is just liberal spin. Don't fall prey to it (if they repeat the lie often enough......)

You don’t need a plug or batteries for your pressure cooker to do this. Not gonna elaborate as the idiot media is already filling up with “How To” guides today.

Most pressure cookers are used on top of a gas or electric range.

Pressure cookers ARE NOT “plug-ins”. They are pressurized vessels made out of heavy gauge aluminum that are operated with an external heat source. Commonly used for canning they have a lid that locks into place with a substantial gasket to avoid leakage and a pressure relief device.

There is a BIG difference between a pressure cooker and your typical kitchen appliances like rice cookers and crock pots.

They would be used in bomb making to allow the explosive pressure to build up before blowing open the vessel.

The bomber didn’t want to cook in it. He just wanted a large, sealable metal container to build his bomb in. A pressure cooker would up the explosive power of the bomb and also keep bomb-sniffing dogs from smelling it.

every pressure cooker I’ve ever owned was put on a stove.

That said, the vessel is just used because it is strongly sealed and yet has a hole to run a wire in for the detonator.

And wouldn’t the desired effect be sort of like a pipe bomb?

Doesn’t the pressure cooker work kind of like a pipe bomb(what I’ve heard...not a bomb person here...) in that it would add a great deal of force to whatever it was packed with on exploding?

Then they would have attacked an IRS location of some sort, if that were the case.

Islamic terrorists go for high carnage. A Boston marathon crowd provides that.

We’ll see.

In my teenage years a recall making sparkler firecracker. Most either fizzled or the casing was so tight the explosion sputtered. It would seem to be that the person making the bomb had good training to know the appropriate ratios. Either the person was trained abroad or had to have live test in the US. Either way, this leaves a trail.

Ah, that’s why the dogs wouldn’t have discovered the bombs. Makes a good cover so the DHS could say they were vigilant and yet the bombs still go off without being detected.

Sounds crazy, I know, but every time there is a terrorist attack there is a counterterrorism “drill” going on at the same time in the same place for that particular kind of attack, and it never stops anything from happening. Whole lotta coincidences there.

Pressure Cookers are usually plug ins. In fact, I’ve not seen a battery operated one.

You'd need a pretty impressive battery to make a pressure cooker cook normally.

But these pressure cookers were being used as bomb casings, not for cooking. So, you'd need just a tiny battery to operate the detonator and possibly to power the timing mechanism. Or maybe no battery at all. Perhaps just a slow-burning fuse or a mechanical detonator actuated by a mechanical timer.

It is a relatively easy target. Unlike a stadium event, there is no way to check people as they enter because there are no fixed entry points. The event is spread out over 20+ miles. There were more than 20,000 participants, finishing over a period of two hours. Each participant probably had some kind of athletic bag or backpack in custody of a friend or family member, containing clothes and energy drinks and so forth. These backpacks would be everywhere. Particularly after the frontrunners crossed the finish line, there would be a tendency for the crowds to dissipate and the security to relax a bit. Then it would be even easier to infiltrate the crowd with a bomb or bombs.

In the Third World, pressure cookers are not electric, they get heated by being put on top of a range, or on a fire. The purpose of the cooker is to serve as a bomb casing.

Dogs need to be able to smell the explosive. If the explosive is placed into a sealed, air-tight container (like a pressure cooker), there would be no smell for the dog to detect.
