BOSTON (WHDH) -- Photos sent to 7News by a viewer show the scene just before and right after the bombs went off on Boylston Street.
7News has provided these pictures to the FBI as they continue their investigation. They are looking at the pictures to see if it's possible it could be the second bomb.
In the first picture you can see a bag next to a mailbox and up against a barricade along the marathon route. In the second, which we have blurred because it is very graphic, there is no sign of the bag. The viewer who took the pictures says there may be an hour or more between when the first and second pictures were taken.
A different series of pictures sent to 7News by another viewer have been handed over to the FBI as well.
A man took the images from his office above Boylston Street and they show the moments right after one of the explosions.
You can see almost everyone is frozen, a many crouching on the ground, stunned or injured. But one man is acting very differently from everyone else. You can see he is running away from the scene.

A small explosive device whose damage was due entirely to shrapnel.

The major discussion seemed to center around the burn mark from the blast was not located at that spot.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking as well. Although that bent guard rail is strange unless that is just a weird angle it’s at.
The girl is handing out bottles of water which are probably stored in the bag by the mailbox.
My questions revolve around when the package was placed. Was it placed before the barricades or after?
Was anybody watching the barricades?
why is the most pertinent part of the picture? the BOMB blurred out in the 2nd after photo?
Because there are arms and legs and blood laying there.
That's not bent; those are the portable rails that are set up for occasions. It's just knocked over, by the blast, or by people.
The bomb had already detonated so there WAS no bomb to blur.
My guess is, they blurred out blood and gore.
Looks like you can see the black backpack in the street next to the guy’s foot in the bottom right. There are also smoking remains in the street as well....
Yeah you can see it in her hands, that’s Poland spring half-pints. I don’t think it’s that bag. The bomber wouldn’t be so obvious. He wants to remain hidden so he put it behind the guard rail, behind some people which would also explain the bent guard rail. Probably bent not from the explosion but from people crushing against it.
Tran the reporter on that Channel 7 news said they had blurred the photo intentionally to block out gore.
They swept the area for explosives twice BEFORE the race started.
It looks like the orange bag is still there.
Noting the tables and chairs remaining upright, the lack of damage to the storefront, leads me to conclude a shape charge.
Added that it was put very close to the mailbox, a solid metal backstop for shrapnel.
Very similar to an incident I was involved with in Iraq. A suicide bomber purposely stood against a solid wall, so that the blast and shrapnel was directed outward in the direction he chose.
I am thinking the IED was placed just in that position for the same reason.

There’s no way that a blast from that bag at that location between the security fence and the mailbox would wrap the fence streetward around the mailbox. The fence got bent like that because a person at the fence was pushed through the fence by blast originating behind them.
